Marvellous isn't it that all these ex pats living in Oz saying how great the UK is (strange that most of them don't want to come back) and worries over high taxes (council tax especially), immigration, crime are all overblown.

I've lived in both countries and the social and economic problems Australia faces are nothing compared to the UK. I could add some others that haven't yet been mentioned like high prices for basic goods and services, nanny state, red tape, welfare benefits thrown at single parents rather than married ones, less NHS dentists than ever before, GPs paid more for doing less, declining school stds (which is why more people are going private despite the dumbing-down of GCSEs and A'levels) and guess what? More UK citizens looking to emigrate than ever before because of the scale of decadence in the UK.

Most people have finally woken up to the fact that the Labour Gov't under Brown and Blair is the worst in living memory. Something I foresaw and could have told them in 1997.

Just one indicator of how bad this country is governed, and this report is only applicable to the young people of this country!

Cracking post!! fully agree with you, this Gov has bent over and given the others a wink and a come on do me now look!

This country is going to the dogs and i give it 10 years at very most before it reaches crisis point

It doesn't depend on anything of the sort. Facts are facts irrespective of which newspaper you read. For most indigenous Brits (black and white), both young and old things are dire.

These naive, pc people who glory in the scale of immigration don't know the facts and how it impacts on society - read the article below.

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/opinion/m.../16/dl1601.xml
Since 1997, Labour has allowed an average 157,000 new migrants per year into Britain - almost triple the average annual number admitted in the decade prior to 1997....More than 1.2 million have arrived in Britain in the past eight years from outside the EU.

To say nothing of the million from inside the EU!! ie the newly established Far Eastern EU countries like Latvia and Poland in particular.

I'm not sure any country could be divided up into that race love their kids and that race dont:blink:

Australian kids, like those anywhere range from the obese and overindulged, to the abused and anybody living here must have seen some of the incredibly high rate of child abuse cases that reach the media and then heard of the hundreds of thousands of others that dont reach the media, unless they die. The amount of child abuse cases in australia has shocked many and its been commented about on this forum before.

Besides, unless we are discounting black people  most aboriginal children live in worse conditions than many in the third world, they are australians.

Sadly child abuse is not exclusive to any one nation or race.

Well, my girls are already telling anyone who will listen that we are moving to the county and getting a pony, so that's a good sign ;)

One thing that hasn't been debated much of the thread is the economic outlook in the UK which, let's face it, is pretty bleak at the moment to say the least...

Perhaps, BUT, you would trust that they haven't just asked 16 kids living in Wandsworth.

I'd hope that the Sunday Times would have at least checked the veracity of the organisation doing the analysis.

What? Like they did with the Hitler Diaries ;) Damn, just brought Godwin's Law into the thread:lol:

I was your age when we moved on to 2,5 acres at Anglevale,15 years ago,[ 35 km north of Adelaide], My two girls are married and moved on ,but they had the greatest upbringing lots of pets, goats ,sheep ,rabbits...etc.
Now its the grand kids turn ,i cant wait till my grand son is old enough to ride a small motor bike, so i can buy one:).
Its a great feeling coming home from work, driving up the drive way, parking the truck, grab a beer go and tend my vegie patch or get the eggs from the chook house.......a great life would not change a thing....good luck mate....mm:thumbsup:

What, you are nearly as old as Ray? Respect.

Our house back home was down a country lane surrounded by trust land and directly opposite were 3 farm houses and acres of fields. Friends of ours bought one of the houses and part of the old farm at auction, 6 acres to be exact and built a menáge, 4 stables and converted a huge barn for both work and animals. They had a Vietnamese pot bellied pig, 2 goats, a pony, 2 horses, rabbits, guinea pigs, 2 cats, 2 dogs, a rooster, hens and ducks. Our son loved popping over to see them. It was like having his own little zoo on his doorstep and only 20 minutes from London. :)
