going sober
have to say over the past few months i've been a bad man, lots of beer, wine, spirts etc tbh the last 20 years i've been pretty bad, but recently i've got to the point where it feels like time to go sober, don't get me wrong i've had a freaking awesome time being a (as the kiwis say) puss head, but now its time to see the world through non fuzzy glasses...
anyone else here gone throw the old cold turkey? got a coupe of bottles of coopers red left and then thats it.... forever...! i gave up smoking 12 years ago and am going to use the same philosophy, never have another sip

Re: going sober
Start now - have a ceremonial pouring down the drain and become a non drinker! Personally I prefer cold turkey (it was tricky with food but I chucked a load of "junk" rather than scoffing it all down!)
Good luck, it won't be easy and it will test your will power but you can do it! Make a list of distraction activities as you pour!

Re: going sober
Be careful 'just stopping , if you've been drinking a lot over an extended period of time 'just stopping' can have some nasty side effects--DT's , blackout and collapse being a few to mention.
Perhaps see your GP first they will prescribe something like valium to cushion the systems shock of withdrawal .
All the best with it.

Good luck to you. However I could never give up a drink. Don't drink every day but a glass or two of wine with friends is something I love.

Well done mate with the job, mate. One step at a time, but when you decide to give the tobacco the boot again, try Allan Carr's book - it made stopping smoking an absolute doddle. Alan also wrote a book about stopping drinking. I think a couple of people on this forum had a lot of success with that book as well.
I'll drink to that.

You might be better off with the DTs!
Sorry for butting in from Italy but having seen someone with Valium problems felt you might want an alternative view.
The very best of luck

Re: going sober
I disagree. Surely taking Valium is not the only way to address a drinking problem? The OP needs to obtain professional advice and explore the full range of options appropriate to his circumstances - which by the way none of us know. In his shoes, I'd approach AA for help and advice.
