Goats Milk
 

My son and I both use Goats milk as we can tolerate it better than cow's milk, but having just looked online at Woolworths and Coles, there was only 1 choice and it was $4.39 for a litre. Here in UK I currently pay £1.34 and can choose between skimmed/semi/full fat.

Does anyone else use Goats milk? and if so, where do you get it from?

Where abouts will you be living?

The supermarkets here, I find, are quite run of the mill. Coles is getting better for stocking out of the norm items, but generally I would have thought that if yo u want a specialised item like Goats milk you would check out local health shops or organic supermarkets, local little places like that. There are plenty around when you start searching for them. I would also probably contact some farmers in a farming area and see if they can source it.

I get beautiful cheeses and yogurts in the Glass house mountains (near to where i live) which are made there (sheeps mind)... but it goes to show that you have to do a little searching.

I haven't seen goats cheese much. I may have found it in a couple of deli's thinking about it? Can't remember seeing it in display in somewhere like Woolworths (although I am sure someone will come on and tell me that they sell it in aisle 7!)..

Didn't even occur to me that it might be difficult to get hold of. It's the only kind of milk we use and I don't think we could go back to cows milk.

You will be able to source it over here, you'll just have to work it out. We have a huge organic supermarket not far from Buderim that i have only just discovered and it does loads of things like that, and I have lived here for 2 years!

Seek and you will find.................. :p

I can't take any goat products, my stomach can't cope with it but there seems to be loads in my local Woolies, both cheese and milk. I'll have a proper look later when I go in. Maybe it depends on where you are :confused: Maybe I'm talking out of my backside :unsure:

Thanks for the replies. We will be living in the northern suburbs of Brisbane, probably Narangba. I am quite happy to look out for the more localised shops, farms etc so hopefully it'll all be OK.

Its strange isn't it how different products affect us, my stomach can't cope with cow's milk (not too much of it anyway) and definitely cannot cope with anything that has too much cream in it, especially not cooked cream, but Goats Milk I seem to be fine with, but obviously for you its the other way round.

Hi Jane - you'll be able to find goats milk, but unfortunately you'll have to pay more for it over here, just one of those things.


When are you moving over here? Are you definitely set on narangba or have you thought about other areas? If you are definitely heading there, then you should be aware of the Narangba Industrial Estate.

If you take a look on this map you can see that the bulk of the estate is to the east of the Bruce Highway, but there is also part of it to the west. Make sure that you don't inadvertently move into a house near the NIE.

Hi,

We are moving over mid June. Thanks for the links, we haven't definitely decided anything yet, as will need to look around properly once we are there before making any firm decision, but if we do stay in Narangba then we would be looking for somewhere nearer to the high school which looks well away from the industrial area.

You'll find it, no problem. If you find it in your local supermarket in the UK you are very lucky; I'm currently visiting and it's certainly not in those Oop North! It's in specialist/organic stores, just like in Oz.

I'm bovine-intolerant but can take goat or sheep in reasonable quantities. Hate goat's milk and yoghurt - it smells so strong and goaty - so use soy milk and sheep's yoghurt, but enjoy a lot of goat's cheese, which IS available in supermarkets although often better from specialist stores.
