Huh .. I am very lax, the only time I wash a vegetable is if I see mud on it.

Fruit almost never.

I eat an abundance of veggies, fruit and raw nuts every week.

If it really bothers you then do as we used to in India which is wash all fruit and veg in iodine water as long as no one is allergic to iodine or has thyroid problems,

I really do wash apples and other stuff I don't peel with a little drop of dish soap and lots of water. I don't like the waxy feeling of apples so the soap gets rid of that as well as a lot of the bacteria.

I think bacteria from fruits and veg from other people's hands is a very small amount of what you actually ingest. Everything you touch is covered with bacteria.

I must admit (in case nobody guessed) I am a germophobe.

I recently had a complete Sheldon moment when I had to eat a finger-food type take-away and couldn't find my hand sanitiser. Husband placated me by finding a small plastic teaspoon. I cannot recommend eating chicken with a plastic teaspoon as it is quite difficult.

I have never been able to accept that some people eat green leafy things. That's the food that my food eats. When my wife tucks into a big leafy green, I sit there and wonder why on earth would you do that ? Yuk.

I remember seeing a programme where this girl had to eat everything with cutlery, even crisps - she was quite adept at it as she'd done it for years.

You do know you need bacteria to live? You have them living in colonies in your body http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases...0603085914.htm

Yes, I know I am a festering hive of bacterial activity. That doesn't bother me so much. It's more the idea of someone else's poo germs recreating in my food that turns me off. So if I've been pushing around a shopping trolley and hanging onto escalator rails there is no way I'm picking up something to eat.

Likewise if someone treks straight from bog to broccoli I don't want to be eating my greens.

Call me old fashioned, I just don't want to eat no sh*t.

Yes, everyone understands that, but do you know how to wash something you aren't going to cook to remove any fecal contamination?

Is it just human fecal your concerned about or is the animals, birds, cats, slugs, insects ect.. Fecal that worries you too?
I just give most of mine a wash with water or peel them. Those Baggie things which come pepared a lot of them are washed in chlorine!! I rather eat shit germs than chlorine!
