GB win Davis Cup

First time since 1936; beating USA, France and Australia (the other 3 grand slam countries) en-route to beating Belgium in the final. Andy Murray becomes only the 3rd player (after McEnroe and Wilander) to win all the matches he played in DC for the year (11 out of 11). A grand achievement. Some pics:

Re: GB win Davis Cup

Surely it should be, Murrays win the Davis cup.

Andy won every one of his singles matches, and every doubles, usually with Jamie. If it hadn't been for those two we would never have done it, so Well done Jamie and Andy.

Incidentally those pictures were a bit small. :p

Re: GB win Davis Cup

The Davis Cup actually would not have been won but for the one of the 12 rubbers not won by Andy in his 8 singles or the 3 doubles with Jamie - James Ward beat top tenner Isner in the 1st tie vs USA to swing it 3-2; otherwise GB would have been out in the 1st round. Sorry about not resizing some of them first. :p

Rather witty for her but Nicola Sturgeon is calling for St Andrew's Day to be renamed St Andy's Day. There's probably no chance of knighthoods for leading player Andy and captain Len like there has been in some more establishment sports. ;)

Re: GB win Davis Cup

It seems a pity GB didn't win a world cup in rugby, cricket or tiddlywinks to elicit some reaction from its expats.

Re: GB win Davis Cup

Andy Murray won both of his singles matches against the USA. He didn't play in the doubles in that match. James Ward won only one game, which was good, but where would they have been if not for Murray? I think the Murray brothers should have the credit for winning the cup as they won 3 of the 5 games in most, if not all but one, of the matches.

Re: GB win Davis Cup

It was a team effort as they keep saying, including Andy Murray. Murray didn't play doubles against the USA because the Bryan Brothers were the US pair. The thought was that he mightn't win both singles if he had played (and probably lost) a long doubles against the world's best pair for the last 13 years. James Ward won his singles against Isner after the doubles was lost - otherwise it would have been a 1st round exit and the Dunblane boys wouldn't have been playing against France, then Australia then Belgium.
