Gammon - for those that miss it
Just thought I would share this in case some of you don't know...
The gammon you get in the UK is called pickled pork here - this is the closest I have come to getting a gammon joint. |
Re: Gammon - for those that miss it
How weird is that, i was looking for gammon last night for oh tea, so pickled pork you say is that still sliced or in a big chunk :)

Re: Gammon - for those that miss it
I'll have to give that a try. I was coming to the conclusion that they just don't do decent ham/gammon over here... :)

In a big piece like a ham. You can cook it yourslef - I will ask hubby how he cooks it later.

Re: Gammon - for those that miss it
so can you get an uncooked ham?
Everything in the supermarkets is precooked and like bloody rubber, I want a ham that I can cook properly, boiling it then roasting in honey and cloves! |

You lot have obviously not taken any notice of Cresta's ramblings on the subject. He'll be mortified

Not all butchers do it, so you may need to ask around, but it can be found :) |

Yep, it was Cresta that put me onto Pickled Pork years ago when we were both mourning the lack of a bacon sandwich!

So why is it called pickled pork? Is it just raw or is it like pickled :)
I am being serious, I cant work it out |

Re: Gammon - for those that miss it
Just found this description on a cooking forum after a quick google. It would appear it's just a name. Pickled Pork is basically raw un-smoked ham. It has been pumped and brined as the first stage of making ham is. When cooked it hasn't the smoke flavour that ham has but it looks similar when sliced.
