I had to work with an american colleague for a while called Richard Holder. He insisted I called him Dick. Even his email was Dick Holder.
And meeting someone who introduces themselves as " I'm the Dick Holder you've heard about" and sticks out his arm to shake, the urge to say "Have you washed your hands?" is overwhelming JTL |

As you pull into Raynes Park station in London, there's a building across the road with a sign saying "Payne Funerals".
A sign to to die for, athough I would never go with them. I also knew a girl called Polly, her middle name was Esther. |

Oh I went to school with a guy whose name was Justin McDonald. His mother remarried after his father died and when he was adopted by his new dad he became Justin Case.

I used to work with European traders.
My fav was a Swede/Dane called 'Jurgen Kunz'....of course his first name sounded more like 'your'an'. |

When I taught in SW Sydney there were a pair of Asian twins known as Pepsi and Fanta. Of course the name Phuc (pronounced Fook) can be interesting for a beginning teacher. A friend of mine, on his first day, pronounced it with the short vowel sound. Another friend tells of a girl he taught called Bumsuk (pronounced Bomsook) and Layme. |
