I've been down that road many times and the best way a QLD Aussie has ever explained it is, after a bit of banter, You Pommies have two ways of speaking the same spelling of a word yours have different meanings as well: "You can take your dog for a walk with it on a lead, if it won't sit, you can beat it with a lead pipe"
