I just have a longstanding dislike for West ham due to a former boyfriend....and as for the Gunners....I once got thrown out of a Brighton pub for fighting with a guy I was - errrr - having an illicit rel'ship with. We had to tell my partner (who was there!) that it was a disagreement over the merits of Arsenal vs Forest  Now, when we were in Europe......... |

I've been down that road many times and the best way a QLD Aussie has ever explained it is, after a bit of banter, You Pommies have two ways of speaking the same spelling of a word yours have different meanings as well: "You can take your dog for a walk with it on a lead, if it won't sit, you can beat it with a lead pipe" |

They call it the moon pronounce it moon, just like they say that you're marooned on an island and pronounce it marooned. It's only when talking NRL that Maroon becomes marone.;)

Over the years I've met a quite a few people who've come back from the Orient who are amazed that the languages can use the same word to mean different things, depending on how it's said. "Just like English then", I say, to confused looks. It's extremely common in English (as well as different spellings for the same sound) but people don't notice it. :) |

Must confess I'm more confused than I was before...time for a Stella methinks. |
