foreign iphones in australia
 

Has anyone that has moved to Aus brought there iphone and able to hook it up here. I've got a brother in-law in Canada that has a few 3g's laying about and he said I could have one... I've phoned telstra and optus and gotten conflicting answers... I've also been asking people this but so far all everyone says is a "friend" has done it... I don't care about who you heard has done it. Have you done it where you have a foreign iphone working with an australian sim card on an australian mobile phone network? Not interested in any other phones as they won't sink with ical... just incase you were going to recommend an alternative

It will work fine as long as it is not locked to a network. (other phones do sync with iCal).

If they are locked, jailbreak using jailbreakme.com and download Ultrasn0w in cydia.

Otherwise, any sim card will work.

Harrip. When I said ical... I was inferring by the dots other mac apps also such as mail, itunes - sorry for the confusion. So are you saying there is another phone that is compatible with most if not all mac apps and can sync reasonably well with a mac. Do tell!

As others have said you will need to check it is unlocked. When unlocking only use the unofficial unlock if you are reasonably technology savvy, otherwise you will have to manage the issues with applying apple updates and re-unlocking and can risk bricking the phone (its not like a cheap nokia unlock) otherwise get it officially unlocked by the carrier.
