Food shopping - ouch!

Any tips to cut our shopping bill? We have been in Perth 4 weeks today and our food shopping at Coles for 2 people is costing more than $250 a week and thats without booze

We eat quite a bit of fresh fruit and veg but even so our food bills are ridiculous...

We are being careful to only buy "in season" stuff as well.

I just asked local people at school where the nearest one was and investigated buildings/stalls that looked likely.

I can't help you with shopping in Perth, but I can tell you that I spend well in excess of £120 per week in Sainsbury's here & again, that's without booze too. It's also mainly without meat also, because I get that sent up from my old butcher in Devon.

Does that help you feel better

Nice to see there is someone else who spends as much as we do!

Stop shopping at Coles for a start then I rekon. Its more expensive than Woolworths I find.

Agreed - the last 12 months prices have gone up through the roof. The shop that used to cost me £80 now costs me £100, again without booze, plus some extras from the butchers around the corner. Thats for 2 adults, one 10yo (who eats more than us and I swear has hollow legs) and 2 cats.

Food prices have gone up globally - apparently strongly linked to the drought in Aus over the last few years!

Shop at independent stores like Farmer Jacks, IGA, Supa Valu etc...

Plan your meals ahead, this will stop you buying unnecessary items...

I find im shopping more at IGA these days, Apart from being slightly cheaper i think the meat and veg are better quality, some of the veg in Coles looks well ropey !

Our local butcher sells whole rumps for $5.99 a kg, they are normally about 4-5kg.
The butcher will cut and/or mince the meat how you like.
That works out cheaper and it's much better quality then the supermarket road kill.
