I think they should ban children personally. They annoy us childless couples trying to enjoy a meal or a day out.

They also make it expensive to travel at certain times of the year.

I vote for 'kids only' zones, a bit like off leash areas for dogs.

Shouldn't have put 'children', should have put 'anyone'. Presumably you already have a kid free zone. The idea of having a kids only zone is a bit scary. The dogs aren't allowed in the off leash areas without a human

NB. That's good to hear. Hope it's enforced though.

So the only kid free area I am entitled to is my own home? Why should my enjoyment be ruined by other people's kids? Wasn't my choice to have them.

Without kids the rest of us could enjoy our fireworks.

LOL Nanny territory personified. Given the ACT government propensity for legislating against things that could even vaguely be construed as fun I am just surprised that it has taken them so long.

Just as many adults get killed and maimed by fireworks every year.

I agree with this. Bloody Kids in pubs seems to be an epidemic here.

The pub should remain a steadfast bastion of childfreeness.

Completely agree. However I am one of those parents who never allowed their kids to raise their voices in public or run around like headless chickens pissing everyone else off.

I made a personal comment how is that a sweeping statement?

I wasn't the one saying just as many adults get injured by fireworks as kids. I note you haven't given any proof to back this statement up.

Also, I enjoy it when those kids fall over. I might laugh and point next time I see it happen.

Don't have any, that's why I'm just going by my memory of reading the papers in the UK before 2005 where there were always stacks of firework injuries in the month surrounding bonfire night.

Stats mean sod all anyway

emelems is an unknown quantity at this point
Default Re: Fireworks banned in Canberra!

For the record I am not great with the whole state or government banning something or whatever...

However, the latest thing to do around here or in the woods is for a bunch of teenager to drive up with a box (huge one) of firecrackers and chuck in a flame and let the whole thing explode...

It was so loud I thought a bomb had gone off...
