Yes but not everyone will be in this position, more than we would like but not everyone. Thus the economy here and in America, Uk etc may contract but not fall over.

The need for Items makes all the difference.

The freeze in the debt markets is over and banks are starting to trust each other. Unemployment in Australia is steady but the high dollar is affecting exporters. Makes life cheap for importers.

This is a new world and debt is still expensive, government is bailing out property funds to hold property prices and government deficits are enourmous. Better this than the panic this time last year though. Crisis maybe over but boom times should not be around the corner as there is a lot of debt to be repaid.

If the American econony crashes like I believe it will then the effects will spread the world over! People will always need essentials but the problem is the economy is much much bigger than esssential items, electrical items, designer labels, new cars are not essential items and all these products are based on consumer confidence. If the American economy did indeed collapse then it will affect everyone the world over because the economy is linked globally and even if it wasn't the confidence of the people will ensure the collapse of the non essential economy.

The crisis is not over in my opinion. People are being dragged back in to the stock market on the back of false confidence that the crisis is over. The various stimulus packages and bank bailouts etc... have only temporarily held the economy up but when these effects have fully worn off the truth will be a big shock.

Things like this are indicators that not everyone has the same level of confidence that the crisis is over.

Maybe but if you know what is about to happen and you are smart you start selling way before the crap hits the fan.

1) So as not to draw attention to yourself

2) So people like yourself see no link and believe its just another coincidence.

Could be that we are in a unique position and seeing a collapse in a superpower that hasn't been seen since the fall of Rome. Luckily instead of chaos and nothing to fill the void, we have another major emerging superpower to take over the reigns, in China.

Apparently at current rates it's less than 6 years now before the Chinese have a larger financial base than the US. Hopefully the transition is as smooth as possible.

I agree with you 100%, thats why I'm keeping a good deal of my savings in something which DOES glitter
