i've never known anyone change jobs as dramatically yet successfully as my 2nd oldest Daughter. Shes a Fitness instructor this year.

I know a few couples who do FIFO together, definitely not for me I have to say. I love my wife to bits, and never sick of the sight of her...I want it to stay that way haha

Just spent a week at Boddington, staying at the Gold mine accommodation which actually wasn't too bad.

What it did do is make me realise I don't want to do FIFO so that plan is now scratched!

I met my other half while we both FIFO'ed. It's pretty difficult to get on the same project/site unless one or the other is pretty high up or well established with a company and has that sort of influence. It's hard enough for a FIFO couple to get the same roster and R&R!

Have her look up jobs billing itself as "ALC's - Active Life Coaches" if she wants to stay doing what she is doing, otherwise usually the woman half of the couple is usually a peggy or site admin.

In one case at a previous job the female half of the couple was the engineer and her husband was the 'tag-along' so he got a job laboring quite easily. Different companies so different rosters unfortunately.

Yep, it's not for everyone, I left my first FIFO job 7 months in, lucky enough to walk into a job with their subcontractors. You can seriously jam management roles up the proverbial. I'll be on the tools til I retire

True dat.

I did live on a remote minesite for 6 months in the late 80's in far worse conditions than Boddington but it just made me think, "is it really worth the extra, say 30 or 40 grand to what I'm already earning?" especially as the house is paid off and there will be no more school fees in 2 years time.

You seem to be in a good position.Enjoy what you have.Sounds like you made the right decision. While the extra money would be nice, enjoy the kids while they are still at home. Our eldest has finished school and will be off to Uni this month. She is getting more independent each day.Our youngest has two years left also. They grow up fast.It will be nice not paying school fees also.

Mine are 17 and 20, never would've dreamt of FIFO when they were young to be honest, all I'm doing now is looking to MY future, I don't want a mortgage round my neck til I'm 70, all the normal stuff. It works for us for the time being, but it wouldn't take much more bullshit to get me to pull the pin.

I was referring to accounting in general

Anyone who willingly goes into this field needs their head read

So what made you believe an MBA was for you? When most people don't really know what they want to do they study psychology, sociology or marketing.

My daughter's doing psychology, when done with that her teaching degree will be 18 months, which is fair. I had the whole if you don't know what you want to do with it, then don't bother chat with her, nothing annoys me more than a wasted education. Well a lot of things do really, but bugger all to do with this. Bloody hell from flying to work to accounting, this thread has everything.

Yeah...although education shouldn't be simply viewed as a utilitarian proposition. The value of a good education cannot summed up in monetary terms alone :).
