Feeling weird......

I have just had a phone call from a lady whose mother may be interested in taking our cats. She is coming tomorrow while I am at work and may well take them with her. I know that they need to go to a good home and they cannot come with us but it all feels so weird. Especially knowing that I might well be seeing them for the last time at breakfast tomorrow :(.

Fortunately my 3-year old seems to have her head around the fact that we cannot take them to Oz with us, although her turn of phrase 'we don't need them anymore' tugs at the old heart strings a bit.

Have you started looking for homes yet or have you got some time to work up to it?

We left our cats with my SIL over a year ago. Our kids (aged 3 now) still talk about how Auntie has got our cats.....

We could never have brought them, but I feel unhappy the kids haven't got them as pets now.

Also Australia is largely cat-unfriendly, many councils insist your cat stays indoors or in a cat-run in the yard, some areas, including where we are building our house, ban them completely.

This is to protect the local wildlife and quite frankly I have no problem with that.

My heart goes out to you all:(

I remember the turmoil when I thought I would have to rehome Gordon - that hurt me far more than anything.

You are all making a decision based on the best interests of your pet and your family, it must be bloody hard for you all.

You are not abandoning them, you are passing them on to loving homes and for that you should be commended.

As Buzzy said, if you are unable to keep your cat as an indoor cat and you are thinking of the wildlife - fair play to you.

There are many that don't care if their cat hunts the odd parrot here and there as it is 'nature'.

Good luck to you all and I hope your pets enjoys their new homes:thumbup:

We didn't bring ours either, I still miss them but they have a very cushy life with my Dad now.

Will be thinking of you.

We off-loaded the missus' cat onto her parents. Match made in heaven, I can tell you - cat's ludicrously pampered - has its own bloody great cushion/chair thing in their front room, gets salmon for tea. First thing we did when we bought our house here was get the missus a new cat (I'm, ermm, not much of a cat fan) from the RSPCA. Loads of people have cats here, they roam where they want .... :D

That's bad though, one guy posted on here ages ago that he didnt think that one cat would have any impact on the wildlife if it killed something once in a while.

I suppose if they are somewhere where they cannot cause damage then it's OK.

My greyhound would easily kill a cat - it was a natural instinct for him as a sighthound. That is the reason I couldnt let him off the lead, even if it was nature.

It was only when I worked at Currumbin Zoo that I truly realised the effects cats can have on the wildlife.

What is the fascination with cats? They are self-centered, egomaniacal creatures that kill indiscriminately (even their own species). They wage war on their neighbourly cat for scarce resources such as land to roam around, or food.

If a cat had a favourite song it would be "Live and Let Die"; probably the cover version by Guns n Roses.

Plus they have more sex than me. Bastards.

If there was anything remotely endangered and/or that couldn't look after itself, I dare say they'd legislate (I mean, they do for every other facet of life) against cats.

They sound rather like a lot of humans.

In defence of cats: Feed 'em, they look after themselves. Like a bit of attention once in a while. I find that dogs are just so gullible and always seeking attention. And stink (and often drool) unless they get regular baths. At least cats are always pretty clean.

And don't forget cute and loving...

I miss my cats (they're in quarantine, spent silly money sending them over)

Yep, i agree. My two moggies don't go out, they don't want to. They are clean and very quiet, don't know i have got them. Dogs stink and are noisy and crap all over:lol:
