Factor 50 suncream

Can anyone tell me where I can find factor 50 suncream?

I have looked in Kmart, pharmacy, Wollies/Coles and can't find higher than 30+.

Can anyone tell me the difference betwen 30 and 30+?

I have really fair skin and will burn with any less. I also use it on the kids.

30+ is all they are allowed to have written on the sunscreen. Slip slop slap.

Yep thats the max they can put apparently - it just means that it is a higher protection than 30 :)

I buy an Australian made 50+ Sunscreen here in Dubai. It should be available from your pharmacy where they sell Ego products, if not ask them to order in for you, it's usually next to the Ego Sun Sense Toddler Milk. It's called Sun Sense Daily Face.

Re: Factor 50 suncream

They're not allowed to state more than 30 in Australia because it's very very difficult to prove and they don't want people to become complacent about their sunscreen ie 'I've put Factor 50 on so I won't get burnt'. The most you can get here is 30+. If you want a 'higher' factor you have to go with a heavy zinc and look like a glowing white claggy thing. However you wouldn't get burnt ;)

I do recall something to that affect, but this one I get here is an Australian Made one, so it's probably the same stuff, just allowed to put 50+ for the export market. It's the small tube of ego in the white and tan tube.

Can you order it online?

I have two I brought with me - one is La Roche Posay for my face (as prescribed by a dermatologist) and the other Banana Boat SPF50 for Babies. Isn't BB an Aussie brand?

Wouldn't bank on it :D Aussie shampoo and conditioner is sold in the UK and not here. Dingo land is a funny place sometimes ;)

Funny you should say that; I found this earlier while looking for Banana Boat's origins. http://nano.foe.org.au/node/291

What's a nano, Doctor Burb?

Funnily enough there was an article in the West Australian this wek on all the horrors of sunscreen additives - especially PABA which is banned in some countries but not here!

Remember to get 10 minutes of full sun with no block every day or you will get vitamin D deficiency - an increasing problem here as people avoid sunburn too much!

Basically decide now which way you want to go!

My very blonde relatives used the huge pump action 'target tub' of 30 + all over Xmas and didnt burn a little bit.. You will be all good!!

Yeah, I could get burnt by a full moon and Target 30+ ALWAYS prevents me from getting burnt.

Banana Boat Powder Dri is my sunscreen of choice, it dies down to a talcy finish so doens't leave you feeling all gross and greasy. I'm very fair and haven't been burnt using it yet. If they don't have it in Oz then I'm not moving...

No really, every other sunscreen breaks me out!

Thanks for the replies will give them all a try and see what is best, I quite enjoyed making the kids look like Casper with the white sun cream that doesn't disappear, at least you can see the bits you have missed!!

If not will have to get some shipped across!! Does Boots deliver to Oz?!

My daughter is allergic to PABA so I hvae to shop carefully. I know priceline big pump suncream is PABA free and alot of other things free too.

And yes you can get Banana Boat Powder Dri here its about $12 and very good.

Just avoid those aerosol sprays - they are acrap total crap and dont work.

FUnily enough my fave sunscreen is from Matalan for about 2 quid! Cant get that here though

You could get the Invisible Zinc sunscreen. Best of both worlds ;)

I read somewhere that the Aussie factor 30 is the equivalent to the Uk factor 50. They say they test the Aussie stuff after swimming, towel drying etc and the Uk/European ones are tested straight after application.

I use the cancer council ones they are tested to ensure they do what they say and none have nano technology in them

they say 30 plus and they act like a 50 or so. I have very fair skin that burns easily so I have to be very careful:thumbsup:

Unfortunately not! The only sunscreen that my skin agrees with is E45 from Boots, in spite of trying several here. So I stock up whenever I go home and bring it back with me!

We use Banana Boat kids "powder dry". We also use a 'lipsyl' thing for lips, 30+ protection.

We have our skin checked, free, every year, and little ones skin checked every two years.

Our Australian friends took our kids on a day out and as well as topping up sunscreen also used the zinc to make pretty patterns on the kids faces on the most likely places to get burnt, i.e., nose, cheekbones, chin bone, ears.

We let kids have 5-10 mins per day in the garden without any protection because of the Vitamin deficiency stuff we've read.

I never thought of the skin deficiency thing. Will take note. How come you get free skin checks? Was going to look into it for us but pressumed you'd have to pay.

There are cancer clinics all over the country where you can get a yearly check for free.

Find a bulk-billing clinic.

Even if you do have to pay it costs the same as a GP consult i.e. $55 of which medicare will refund $32.

Re: Factor 50 suncream

The West Australian article on sun cream is worth a read but don't get too freaked. If you took to heart everything in the news papers you'd end up never going out and starving.

A little bit of sun is good for you, cover up if you don't want to use sun cream, apply often if you use sun cream.

I do burn very easily but must admit I'm fed up with the ends of my hair being permanently covered in sun cream.

As far as covering up goes I bought a few T-Shirts, long and short sleeved, from Anaconda which are SPF 50+. Then I only have to put sun cream on the exposed bits rather than all over. When swimming for a long period of time if it's too hot for a wetsuit, wear a rash vest and board shorts. For young kids I'd recommend one of the all in one swim suits/sun suits you can get, then just putting the cream on any bits still exposed.

Hope that helps.

Ours charges $50 for the first one, then bulk bills for each further session.
