EXPENSIVE TO MOVE

I have been reading posts on here for the cost to move all your Worldy goods over to Oz and was wondering if anyone has any info to offer me.

There are plenty of companies around here in the North West and I have just been given a quote for a 20ft container to Oz with full insurance and tax. I'm told this is the top service, door to door, they do all your packing, the lot. But it does seem a higher figure than most I have read on here, and our shipment is in a solo 20ft container. It's a top company not a micky mouse one as well.

The final figure quoted to me is £4,985. They told me first it was around £3750 but aparently then they add Insurance and tax on top of the quote to get your final figure. :curse: Ours is just an average 3 bed house and we are passing some things off to relatives, it's not a massive amount of things we are taking, but holy God this seems a lot nearly £5K
I'm going to get another quote next week but can you give me your opinions.
Thanks a lot,
PADDY

Hi Paddy,

We paid John Mason (exceptional service!) £3,500 odd for sole use of a 20ft container door to door without insurance.

They use Letton Percival for insurance and you can go direct and save a few £££'s.

Good luck! ... :)

Oh and they pack VERY well (3 bed house - 4 guy's), even things like chairs get wrapped in padded paper!

We bought a plasma TV and they supplied a special box for it for £25 I think.

NOTHING was broken, but thinking about it now, we DID have to make a few cups of tea for the boys! ... terrible! ... :D

BIG BIG THANK YOU to Paul and Nic for this one. I'm so happy, you have saved me over £500 I'm in shock I just called the company you recommended and have a quote which is fantastic for the insurance.

Thank you so much. It just goes to show how you can get ripped off if you don't do your research. To think I was paying over a grand and a broker just up the road from me can save me half of that, that's almost a bloody ticket to Oz. I'm off for a few bevvies now to celebrate, even the Mrs is smiling.

Hope to see you in Brissy mate and the beer's are on me. Good Luck to you for the year and THANK YOU once again.

PADDY :D:D:thumbsup: Diliriously Happy

Hi Paddy. Don't go with the shippers 'liability' insurance (even if they press you to do so) as this doesn't cover all eventualities. Get a Marine policy thru Letton Percival. I did alot of research and this seemed the best option and is what we did.

If you shop around you should be able to get a sole 20ft container for around £3500 (excl the insurance). Ours was door to door August 07 with Anglo-Pacific at £3400-our container was 3/4 full with contents of 2 bed flat.

We insured around £25,000 of stuff thru Letton Percival and our premium was £406 inclusive of 5% tax. We are also paying a further £50 per month for storage extension cover (because our things are currently stored in Aus as we shipped them 5 months before our arrival).
:)

:eek: Amazed that they have arrived if you used Anglo Pa******! OH got all sorts of grief (told part of her gear was left behind and lost, when it wasn't), incorrect shipping details (advised shipment was on 3 different ships) and sweet FA customer service (unanswered emails, dozens of international phonecalls) from them, when she sent her stuff over.

There might be some extra costs this side as well. We paid about $400 extra. Total cost for a 20ft was about GBP4k door to door.
