Epson printer advice needed.

Bought an epson stylus office tx610fw 2 years ago. Worked like a dream for the first year, few days after the warranty ran out the wifi dropped out and haven't been able to link it up again since, had it checked and it apparently does work. Then, for the last 6 odd months the magenta and yellow inks will not print!

It's doing my head in! I paid nearly $200 for the damn thing and it's been the biggest pain in the ass ever.

Has anyone else experienced the same with an epson or with any printer and can offer any advice?

I've just gone and bought a new printer (hp this time) but I loathe to chuck the epson as I paid so much for it, do you think it could be repaired, is it worth repairing?

I'll be impressed if you can find anybody who will even look at it. The reality is that the printers are just disposables that cost a bit more than the ink !

I have an HP.. paid $250 a few years ago and its not been much better than your Epson.

Sorry.

I bought a Brother B&W laser printer for $36 a few weeks ago. A replacement toner is $70!

Thanks for that, that is basically what I was thinking that they are so disposable these days. Wouldn't feel so bad if I hadn't paid so much. The new one didn't even cost half as much! Lesson well and truly learnt. Funnily enough, the ink pack is more than the printer too

Was looking at a Brother printer today too, glad I didn't go for it now!

We buy the generic stuff from the supermarket. Small jewellery screwdriver and refils for about $3 each:lol:

Mind you the printer is years old not sure if it would work with the new ink packs.

In case you haven't tried it, put the ineffective print heads on a thick paper towel soaked in isopropyl alcohol overnight to loosen the ink and then run cleaning cycles. (I'm assuming there *is* some ink left <g>.

Thanks for the tip, I'll get hubby to try that when he gets back from work in a few weeks. Meanwhile, I will set up my new one as I need a printer NOW!

Went into the printer shop in Helensvale this afternoon and was told that the print head is $200 to replace!

I am just about to buy my third Canon printer. My current one has lasted 5 years. I don't use Canon ink but usually Calidad or another clone. I print a lot of photos and it seems the result is much more a function of the paper than the ink. My OH is now using a Canon after going through various HPs and Epsoms over the last 15 years. We had a bad experience with a Brother and wouldn't try another.

I'm an amateur photographer and use a Canon iP3600. I think I paid £70 for it. You can also buy a continuous ink system (get them on ebay) which when fitted cuts your ink costs hugely. In the last year, bearing in mind that I print a lot of photographs, I have paid £50 for ink! :) You buy it in bottles and they feed the head directly. A bit of a fiddle to fit, but once done its a great saving
