Emotional

We are flying out on Tuesday to Brisbane to stay with some friends and then on to Mackay on the Sunday to starts our new life. . Today is my childrens last day at school. I am dreading picking them up as I know there are going to be lots of tears! And seeing them so upset will set me off. My youngest boy has his class assembly this afternoon and I know they have planned something for him. Up till now I have been very strong and positive but today I have woken up feeling very emotional. I don't know how the best way is to handle it. I know there are going to be many more tears shed over the next few days. Should I let them see me cry or should I try and stay strong for them?

Nikki, you are bound to feel like this, but try to stay strong for your kids. It's hard as hell though.
My daughter also had an assembly on her last day and the headmistress got her up in front of the school and did a presentation for her. The OH left our girl to say her goodbyes in the classroom, he waited outside and let them all cry together....once she had left she was fine.

You know, nothing can prepare you for how you will feel....it left me emotinally drained, I cried for days before we left. But, think of the exciting times ahead and what the future holds for you and your kids

As an afterthought, my 9 year old did see me cry and I think it made her be strong for me! She seemed to be the brave one....I think she felt she had to look after me!

We will be going through all of this over the next week or two. It is going to be hard for sure.
Just go with the flow & if you need a cry, have a cry!
Best of luck:thumbup:

Hi All,

We're leaving on 24th October and I guess I'm trying not to think about it too much other wise I'll end up crying.

We just wanted a small get together with the family, quite quiet and low key but some how this is turning into a bigger deal with more people gathering.

Maybe I'm kidding myself but I just keep thinking we'll see everyone in 2 years when we come back to visit and family could visit us.

Am I selfish to just want to keep it low key?

Thanks all.

It's awful seeing your kids say goodbye to friends and family. I didn't cry in front of them, although i wanted to.
Keep calm for them, easier said than done i know, but be strong. Good luck.

You have to arrange what you feel you can cope with!
Can you hold several smaller gatherings rather than one big one which you may find more difficult to cope with?

Don't bottle up the tears- they will come at suprising times. I cried when I thought that it was probably the last English Fete I would go to, but I didn't cry when I said goodbye to mum. My daughter saw me shed a tear, but was ok with the fact that it was a little sad to be moving away, as you would miss things, as long as you stress the positive things too and don't dwell on it. It is a big change and if you feel you can't show any emotions then it might make it harder. Mind you, my daughter is used to me crying at odd moments, usually involving me being really proud of her.

Hi All,

We were going to hold an informal get together at close family home now another family member has hijacked it and seems to be making it into a big send off :curse:

Thanks all.

Oh dear!:(
Have you tried speaking to said family member? It's such a minefield though, trying not to hurt anyone's feelings. I know it won't make it any easier to get through but it is only one evening & will be over before you know it.
Good luck!

Hi,
Oh my goodness, I am emotional reading your post! We have recently had our visas granted and are not as far on as you as we have not confirmed a date yet - but it's coming. Dealing with the kids emotions is hard. Our 8 year old daughter is the worst re her friends at school! Most of the family are behind our move but you know that really they don't want us to go! And how can we take the kids away? Thats one comment that was made.

Just remember why you initially wanted to move out there and that you are doing a wonderful thing for you and your family!! Good luck with the move. What are you doing out there - job wise?
