education
I was just wondering if anyone as moved a child at the end of GCSE examination and how have they fitted into year 11 and 12 in Australia.Our oldest will be 16 entering year 11 in UK. He'll go 17 in October 2010 so I think he will be a year older than other children in year 11 in Australia. have I understood this correctly? Also would in join year 11 in January 2011?
Thanks for any help.Lynn |
Re: education
I can't answer your question as my lad is only 2, but I am under the impression that the answer will vary depending on what State your lad will be in (as in 'NSW', not as in 'nervous').
Perhaps let us know where you are headed, and another poster (as in 'person', not as in 'Athena') can answer you properly.............. |

Re: education
My eldest is two months older than your boy. He will be entering Y12 in January 2011 and is one of the eldest in his year here in NSW. I had a quick look on the Queensland website for you and from what I can see kids there have to have turned 15 by 31st December to enter Y11 in January. There is a wider age range in school years here than in the UK, but I would think it unlikely that a public school would register your son in Y11 if he was already 17. Hopefully someone from Queensland can give you a definitive answer.

Re: education
An accurate example of QLD age rules for children born before 2002 are;
Children born in 1996 will start school years as follows: year 1 in 2002 year 2 in 2003 year 3 in 2004 year 4 in 2005 year 5 in 2006 year 6 in 2007 year 7 in 2008 year 8 in 2009 year 9 in 2010 year 10 in 2011 year 11 in 2012 year 12 in 2013 The above applies to my child, hence I know the accuracy. By changing the above by three years, to get a birth date in 1993, the years will be: Children born in 1993 will start school years as follows: year 1 in 1999 year 2 in 2000 year 3 in 2001 year 4 in 2002 year 5 in 2003 year 6 in 2004 year 7 in 2005 year 8 in 2006 year 9 in 2007 year 10 in 2008 year 11 in 2009 year 12 in 2010 These are the normal ages groups, but sometimes they can be varied, depending on circumstances. These rules cannot be used for children born after 2002, as the starting age system changed for that age group. |
