Politics and pork-barreling overcome national defence unfortunately

This is completely true - and let's also not forget they will also end up being based in SA, so it takes days to get them on station where they are needed. The same with our sea patrol aircraft. It's brilliant that they have to fly across the continent to spend a couple of hours on station before having to fly all the way back again.

Now that would be gold. It would turn the constitution into more turmoil.

On a serious note - an exception is made if someone tries to renounce but the foreign country doesn't allow it. So Barnaby's seat would be safe if he tried to renounce but New Zealand refused to allow it.

One thing that did come out was that "all reasonable efforts" meant reasonable on the part of the country, not the individual. So if the country had a process, then the individual had to follow it. It's only when it didn't have a reasonable process (eg Iran) that the individual could get away with just the attempt.

Which means just applying to renounce isn't good enough, you HAVE to go through all the steps that a reasonable country requires.

I get the feeling we'll have more as we get closer to the 1st Dec.

Oh yes. No one has investigated the Labor party yet. Penny Wong still hiding. Plenty more to come.

When you look at the various individuals, there are many who have either basically admitted their guilt, or who have failed to be forthcoming in providing any real evidence - implying guilt.

Obviously the coalition is worse off in that they didn't check at all (Frydenberg is probably gone for one), but Labor failed in taking the submission of a renunciation form as "good enough". The courts verdict on Hollie Hughes makes clear they are taking a very B&W reading of the constitution (as the should) and thus they have 5-7 who will be kicked. And Trunbull should be referring a good 10-15 from the coalition side too.

The biggest problem is how massively poor the politician have been in providing information. Far too many have attempted, even now, to get away with "trust me". Frankly it needs an audit and everyone who's not provided good evidence being kicked until they can prove they have a right to be there.

And if you want to know how much of a mess this now is, Labor's motion to refer nine people (4 Labor, 4 Liberal, 1 NXT - it should be many more) gets supported by the crossbenchers, but voted against by the coalition, with Joyce (one of the bad guys in this) ensuring that the speaker has the casting vote to stop it happening.

So much for the credibility of the coalition.

Your mates in the Labor party are just scum.

Point fingers, selling the clean skin, all the while knowing full well they had issues.

What a nasty, lying, cheap party you vote for.

Mediscare anyone.

You confuse me slightly. You appear to be suggesting that the Labor party have the only scum politicians and are the only party who are nasty and lie. I guess I must be reading it incorrectly.

You are reading it incorrectly. The Labor party take lying and deception to a new level. You only have to take a deep look into the citizenship saga, Mediscare and the dodgy dealings with unions (the arses that got 30 people kicked off my bus last night because the driver had reached the end of his shift) to realise the deep rooted nasty element within the Labor party.

I wouldn't trust any of them, regardless of persuasion, as far as I could throw them. It's a bit disingenuous to attack one party. Just because their 'dodgy dealings' may be different from another lot, doesn't make them better or worse.

At the end of they day, the Labor party are just maliciously bad. The other may be bad, like forgetting to check your citizenship background, but they are not malicious.

I mean Medidcare for example, that was the greatest, maliciously bad lies many of the Australian public voted for.

Why haven't the Libs taken Labor to the cleaners on that lie? Because they aren't malicious.
