Default Driving from Sydney to Broken Hill

Guys,
Me and Mrs D are trying to plan an Easter holiday to Broken Hill. Has anybody done this? If so which route did you take and where are some of the places you would recommend stopping along the way? Finally places to stay and great things to do in Broken Hill (apart from buy art!).
Also the Mrs has seen Wolf Creek so not too much off road!

Thanks!

Dinky

Yes, but only drove from NW Vic/NSW border, not Sydney. Went up the Silver City Highway - took about 3.5-4 hrs from Mildura (and Sydney is about 10-11 hrs the other way on the Sturt Highway).

There is a big mining industry up there so you can visit the mine museums which are quite interesting.

ALso take a trip out to Silverton - there is a pub there (called the Silverton Pub/Hotel) where they have filmed loads of Aussie movies including Mad Max and A Town Like Alice. It's basically in the middle of noewhere (try a Google search.) The landlord has loads of movie photos on display - pretty cool to have a drink there.

There are some nice places to do bush walking and watch the sunsets over the outback.

Definately go check out some art places too - there are some really nice little galleries up there.

Enjoy, anyway! Careful of the roos at dusk - the Silver City Highway is pretty bad for high volumes of road kill.
