Re: Dog Owners - Why?
That makes it all OK then..
Clifton study of fatal dog attacks in the US.
"The study found reports of 264 people killed by dogs over the 24-year period, of which "pit bull terrier" or mixes thereof were reportedly responsible for killing 137, or about 43 percent, of the 314 people killed by dogs in the attacks identified in the study. The breed with the next-highest number of attributed fatalities was the Rottweiler and mixes thereof, with 67 fatalities or about 21 percent of the study-identified fatalities; in aggregate, pit bulls, rottweilers, and mixes thereof were involved in about 64% of the study-identified fatalities"
As you said, perhaps yours was just a "one off".

You cant leave them to guard the property with a nice kennel in the garden while you go out.
Your dog (unlike a child) will be quite happy with a tennis ball to play with in the garden.
Your dog will shit in the garden and you can pick it up without wiping your dogs arse - with an untoilet trained child that is somewhat different.
You routinely worm your dog every month and de-flea it, you cant exactly give monthly preventative treatment like that to your kid.
You can give your dog a bone to clean its teeth, better than trying to show a child how to do theirs properly.
Your dog is not going to throw a temper tantrum in the middle of a pet shop because you wont buy it a pigs ear.
Just playing devils advocate you understand.

Absolute bullshit in my opinion Just so happened i owned an American Pit Bull in the Uk (which regularly receive bad press rightly or wrongly ) for all of nearly 14 years (which is well over the odds for this breed apparently) and not once did she bite anyone or attack another dog in all those years (she did retaliate on odd occasions when picked upon by other dogs mind you )

Re: Dog Owners - Why?
I don't understand the appeal of dogs. I think I like the "idea" of having a dog, but in reality there are far too many things about them that I don't like:
a) they are invariably smelly (cue the dog owners who like to say "but my dog doesn't smell at all" - trust me, your nose doesn't function properly.
b) their hairs fall out everywhere.
c) their breath stinks and they lick your hands/face/everywhere - after licking all sorts of disgusting things. What cracks me up, is that many dog owners don't think this is a problem
d) they bounce up on you and scratch you. Dog owners will tell you "she's only playing"
e) they get ticks, fleas etc.
f) they get sick - and vet bills are supposedly pretty high.
g) you have to put them in kennels when you go away somewhere.
h) they are sometimes unpredictable, biting and seriously injuring (even killing) people. Again - you would think that this would put most people off... but no.
i) they need to be taken out for regular walks- quite an inconvenience if you don't have the spare time...and even if you do, still a pain.
j) they leave their "dirt" in the garden, or on the footpath for you to pick up after them in a nice little plastic bag and then carry home. Surely that's enough disincentive for owning one.
k) some dogs will literally wreck your house when you are out. Tearing your furniture to shreds, ripping down curtains, breaking breakables. Typically these are puppies. Does this bother the dog owner? No, they usually laugh it off and it's just another amusing story for them to tell their friends?
l) they bark, sometimes at all hours. This in turn sets off other dogs in the vicinity. This "barking" can be extremely loud and annoying.
m) they need to be fed and watered regularly - an extra ongoing cost that many people could do without.
n) I'm sure there are others too.
But all along, I know that there are many millions of people who own dogs and love it. I guess I will just never understand dog lovers.

Whats the point in laughing if there is nothing to laugh about, whats the point in going out in the sun, you will get skin cancer, I bet you moan if its too hot/cold as well or even if its raining.
Whats the point in going on holiday, you will only spend money?
Whats the point in animals, oh yes you can have a guide dog if you are blind but give it the bare minimum as it is rather pointless.
Bet you a fiver your glass is half empty - that is if it was ever full to start with.
Actually I think you come across as a bit of an idiot, dont know if you intend to or not but you do.
