Do you find people 'flakey' here?

Re: Do you find people 'flakey' here?
My daughter is signing up this weekend at Quinn's. I'm as excited as she is, I think.
Back to the friends thing. We had a friends in Adelaide who we just clicked with right away. We all enjoyed the same things and loved getting together just to sit on a patio having a coffee or a beer. I haven't really met anyone here in Perth yet who I feel that same "kinship" with. Not to say I haven't met some really lovely people, but I don't think it's the same. Just lately I've come to the conculsion that I'm likable so if people don't want to be with me then it's their loss. If you want, Jules, I'll be your friend. You too, Lace.

I find it really difficult because while I am happy to take up every invitation sadly my husband doesn't enjoy it. I know he would be OK once he met a few people but those first meetings are hell for him so we just don't bother.

The trouble with us is we work together from home, so we don't get to interact with many other people - hence why we are more sadsacks than most

People probably think I am flakey but I am just terrified of going anywhere I don't know with people I don't know.
One on one I can manage!

We have a couple who we lived round the corner from in UK and have known them 10 years and another couple that we met through Paul's work. A few aussie mates through his work too. Like I said he is fine after a couple of meetings but getting him to do that first meet is like pulling teeth.

I know how he feels, I hate meeting new people, it's not cos I am unsociable but cos I am a bit shy. Once I get to know people I am ok, but a lot of new people in one place at one time really does make me nervous.

NB my husband is the same. I know when he met you guys he said on the way home that you both seem like people he would like to hang out with. Sometimes you just have to put your foot down and say let's go. If a dinner or evening out seems like too much for him at once, why not meeting someplace neutral for a coffee?

I'm organising a get together in Kings Park for the rabble that came to the BBQ held at mine - you'd be more than welcome to come along - all of you
I'm looking at either Sat or Sun 22 / 23rd depending on the weather.

It does wear a little thin, doesn't it?
I've said to my Mum that I'm tired of whoring myself out in the name of a new friendship. It's just really hard to find people that you 'click' with.
It's a fine line between being open to new friendships and being shat on from a great height! I just haven't found the balance yet.

With the friends thing, it's maybe something to do with the rule that I try and go by.
"If you cant say anything nice, try not to say anything"
I'm not saying that's an excuse, but being from Yorkshire I know I can be blount and say the wrong thing !!!!.
Maybe people may think it's better to just fade away and be forgotten than have someone tell you you don't want to come to something, because you don't really like them and think they are arseholes ???
Alan.
