Re: Do any expats
I vaguely entertained this notion a while back and you should just google living on a boat and read some experiences.
It seems that even the hardened boatie basically gives up after a while, to the loneliness, cramped conditions and the availability of simple modern convenience that you find in a house.
Having said that if you can make it work for you, then awesome. But I failed to find any good experiences of anyone in the medium term.

Re: Do any expats
We lived on a boat for 3 years at Mooloolaba Yacht Club a few years ago. Overall a positive experience as the boat was very suited to live aboard. I know some expats who live on quite small boats with kids and wonder how they manage/tolerate it.
Having convenience and privacy can be an issue and if you like peace and quiet, it can get very annoying, particularly during the cyclone season when fleets from the pacific come in to shelter for a few months, it gets really packed then (well it used to, could be quiter now the club is closed etc). It then becomes routine to have to wait to use showers/toilets/washing machines. Rent isn't cheap either and boats are very high maintenence.
My husband would have lived there again but although I found it ok, I'm a rural person and like my greenery/privacy and space.
