Difference between Centrelink and Family Assistance

I am wondering if there is a difference between Centrelink and Family Assistance. The services from both of them seem to be the same and when I click to login, it goes to the same login screen.

It is a good question....

You can talk to us in person by visiting one of our Family Assistance Offices located in Medicare offices and Centrelink Customer Service Centres.

and

Family Assistance Office online services provide you with a secure environment to complete some of your family assistance business. Online services are accessible from your home, office, personal computer or phone.
To access these online services, you will be transferred to a secure site hosted by Centrelink.

Family Assistance is technically a program offered by Centrelink, but has its own identity, but appears....... its complicated.......

After a bit more thinking....

The Family Assistance Office provides a range of family assistance payments.

Centrelink itself provides a much wider range of services than just family assistance and unemployment benefits, even stretching into certain immigration services.

Centrelink staff, along with Medicare and Australian Tax office staff, are used to provide services in Family Assistance offices which are located in Medicare Australia, Centrelink and Australian Taxation Office shopfronts, throughout Australia.

Thanks,ABCDiamond. So it seems that Family Assistance is a program, while Centrelink is an goverment agency that takes care of the program.

Thanks for the clarification.

But Family Ass offices are usually located at the same place as Medicare's offices and Centrelink offices are located somewhere else.

But you get Family Assistance offices in Centrelink aswell, and in some Tax Offices apparently. We've always dealt with the Centrelink ones, more convenient.

They tend to just take in the application forms. FAOs are in other places. The CRN you are given for FTB purposes is also used for Centrelink payments such as carers allowance. Medicare use the Medicare number.
