Did you bring your cats?
Wanting some information.
1) Where in the world did they originate from?
2) Are they healthy?
3) If not what have they been diagnosed with since coming here?
4) Do your cats have asthma?
i.e. Dry, hacking cough which may be mistaken for hairballs, wheezing, laboured breathing, exercise avoidance. Symptoms may be mild or severe. In mildly affected cats they may cough of wheeze occasionally. Severely affected cats may cough & wheeze daily, leading to airway constriction & open mouthed breathing/panting. A severe asthma attack can lead to death.

I can't directly help you but would like to try and hijack your thread. I've got a one year old neutered male cat who I am struggling with a bit. He doesn't sleep through the night, normally until 4.30 -5.00 , when he howls like a banshee for hours. Closed door and ear plugs aren't enough. Has anyone got an advice ?

well to answer your original questions....

No
But I have to say I'm struggling to see the purpose of your original post
If less than 1% of cats develop asthma you're going to need an awful lot of answers to validate / justify whatever it is you're trying to achieve from this thread.
ETA: I'm sorry to hear that both of your cats have developed asthma.

Re: Did you bring your cats?
I was going to spare everyone the details but since you chimed in...
The two cats are separated by about 9 years of age. Completely different lineages. Both developed severe asthma within a couple months of each other after only a year or so of landing here. Considering <1% of cats develop asthma the combined odds are extremely low of having two together unless there is possibly an allergen down here that's quite reactive to cats.
So! was wondering if cats that weren't bred here over the past 250 years were more susceptible to what i suspect are molds that are common to the subtropics.
Should have asked where the cats are located.
Just wanting to hopefully find a solution that doesn't end in the prick of a needle just yet. Might be moving south to colder climates soon so will be quite interested to see how they go then.

If I'm not mistaken you live on a boat up north queensland right? Croc and shark infested waters... Problem solved!
On a more serious side... People at work have been telling my wife that there cats are going off their nuts also just like ours are. Just as you described yowling at all hours, but mostly at night... They say it's all the rain and the cats are getting cabin fever from it. Not sure how true that is but...

Singapore, yes, nothing, no.
2/3 litter-mates hand-reared from a couple of days old, 1 sickly kitten taken out of gutter about 16 weeks, all that's ailed them here is getting beaten up by hefty local bullies (no longer go out). More like dogs than cats, very needy, very vocal. Dance on our heads by 5 or 6 most mornings.
Being Singaporean drain cats, they're used to humidity and think it's cold here in Sydney anyway. Heat pads will be coming back out soon.
