dental extractions under general anaesthetic
Are there any dentists within the Brisbane area that will extract teeth under general anaesthesia? If anyone can recommend a good dentist please let me know, thanks

I don't think it something done in dental surgeries as they'd need to get an anaesthetist in. If they're going to do that, don't you have to go to hospital?
Daughter's having her four wisdoms out under general tomorrow in hospital to make room for her jaw to be broken (well cut) in six months time. She's bricking it bless her.

No Idea, but I was talking to a neighbour the other day, comparing dental costs, and from what he told me, I am considering using the Tooth Fairy next time. He did say something about the fact that they have an oral surgeon in the practice, as well as the normal dentists.
I know very little about these things, but just looked up the website, and they have a Specialist Anaesthetist on staff.
And Dr Rod O'Sullivan, who I have heard about, now works there, so I will definitely give them a try.

SarahJane2007 had something similar done Coorparoo way (Southside). Might be worth a PM?

The anaesthetist is the one you have to worry about and whether they have all the right things to look after you if it all goes horribly wrong whilst you are under the anaesthetic.
For sedation - just make sure that there is someone present that you can trust to make sure that your fantasies about the dentist or the nurse or both were or were not true.

Thanks for your help folks. At first I thought the tooth fairy was perhaps a bit of a leg pull but will certainly see what they can offer. I've been trying to find a dentist that knocks you out completely for someone who is a complete dental phobic due to bad past experiences, so thanks once again

Re: dental extractions under general anaesthetic
Does the original poster mean heavy sedation rather than a general ?
I would have thought full general anesthesia can only be done in a hospital as there is always a risk with that process. If someone goes wrong, I'd want a ICU, defibrillator etc all available rather than someone calling and waiting for an ambulance.
I had to get a number of wisdom teeth removed so I opted to get it done in a hospital under a general. It cost a lot more but it was painless and quick.

If all else fails, there's always
a) the bottle of jack daniels (drink),
b) length of string (tie one end to door handle and other to tooth)
c) door (slam it shut).

How is she doing MP? My pal had that done years ago when he was 16 i think and it took him ages to recover from that.

Not looking forward to the jaw breaking op and recovery but hey, shit happens. Her only immediate concern is that she looks gorgeous for her grade 12 formal
