Re: Daughter in Law - Horror Stories!
I imagine my MIL would say that her daughter in law took the kids to the other side of the world and that she was not particularly happy about it!

My daughter-in-law is a lovely woman. She makes my son happy and has given him/me a beautiful baby boy. Honestly I could not have asked for a nicer person to have married my son.
Seriously, I'm not bragging.... she sent me a really gushing card a few months back just out of the blue. It made me think they were preparing to die or something! But the feeling is mutual so there are no horror stories from either of us.... except that I took her grandkids away! |
Re: Daughter in Law - Horror Stories!
My mother-in-law hates me. And I am sure she only has bad things to say about me .
She hates her other daughter-in-law as well (and definitely says bad things about her behind her back). It's a case of "nobody could ever be good enough for one of my boys". Initially I was quite upset that she hated me so for no good reason. But after nearly 17 years of marriage, I am no longer bothered by it. As far as I am concerned, it's her loss! |
Re: Daughter in Law - Horror Stories!
My mother in law hated me, until my husbands older brother got married, then all of a sudden I became flavour of the month. But man the first 8 years were rough :)
We both thought when the younger brother got married she would be off the hook, but sadly she is still top of the moan list when I speak to my mum in law. I cannot figure out what she did wrong - except marrying the first born golden boy. You'd think that she would be the favourite, she now has two babies and lives a few streets away. What more could any granny ask for? |
Re: Daughter in Law - Horror Stories!
I thought this was a daughter in law horror stories! We have bent over backwards to be good to ours. We never stay now when we go back to UK. The last time we stayed, and we never stay more than 3 days, she spent all day once in the bedroom, only surfaced when our son came home, so we know not to impose. We have never been made welcome, even though we have given fantastic hospitality when she visited us in Asia when we lived there. We paid towards their fares and took them both to various exotic holiday spots all paid for. We included her sister as well on one occasion, and seriously didn't begrudge it. She never speaks to us when we skype, not even on christmas day, which really hurts, as we had sent over gifts for them all. Our son does all the catering and cooking, the inference is your parents your problem. We really don't mind renting near them, but would be great if she could at least make a small effort.
We have always had an open house, friends and family are always welcome, our other son's friends come round all the time. We have a fairly constant stream of visitors, so I don't think we are all that bad. The hostility or indifference extends to both our other children, but we try to say, as long as our son is happy we won't rock the boat. I deserve an oscar for biting my tongue. Sad isn't it. |

My MIL doesn't approve of either of her DIL's.... but hey, I figure she can't let go :p |

My mum was an old battle-axe with my wife when we first got married. She'd be round every day "helping" to make sure that Denise did it just right. It took me 6 months to work up some balls, but eventually I had it out with my mum. An uneasy truce then developed, which over the years has actually turned into genuine affection between them.

Re: Daughter in Law - Horror Stories!
I have to endure endless emails from my twin, regarding her son's wife!Ok my nephew(twins son)met his american wife whilst travelling around europe a couple of years ago.My nephew returned home with his then girlfriend. My twin and her OH bent over backwards to make this lady feel welcome, but nothing was good enough. After dinner, the DIL would head for the bedroom where she would stay. After 3 months, nephew and DIL decided to get a place of their own.Well my twin has hardly seen the DIL(nephew married her!!!!!!)and even when the son visits (alone)within 5 minutes the DIL will be sending him texts!Lots of things have happened since then but recently DIL's auntie died.My twin sent a bouquet of flowers and a sympathy card and has yet to be thanked!Nephew and DIL are about to head to the States to live, and I don't think my twin will miss her somehow!:D
