Re: Cyclone Season......FNQ/Northern QLD - TC OLGA
TROPICAL CYCLONE ADVICE NUMBER 29 Issued by the BUREAU OF METEOROLOGY, DARWIN at 11:00 pm CST [11:30 pm EST] Wednesday 27 January 2010
A Cyclone WARNING continues for coastal and island communities from Cape Shield in the NT to Burketown in Queensland, including Groote Eylandt and Mornington Island.
A Cyclone WATCH continues for coastal and island communities from Burketown to Kowanyama in Queensland.
At 9:30 pm CST [10:00 pm EST] Ex-Tropical Cyclone Olga was estimated to be 10 kilometres west southwest of Borroloola and 230 kilometres south of Groote Eylandt, moving west northwest at 15 kilometres per hour.
Ex-Tropical Cyclone Olga is forecast to move slowly offshore during Thursday
where it is expected to redevelop into a tropical cyclone.
Olga has turned and deepened and is on her way back towards Queensland. She is cuurrently estimated to be at Mornington Island as a Cat 3, which would quite possibly leave her with enough power to get right across to the East Coast with a lot of wind and rain.
Keep your eyes on her.

Re: Cyclone Season......FNQ/Northern QLD - TC OLGA
Well, while Olga is keeping us all busy guessing at her track, a warning for people heading for the beach this weekend.
http://www.news.com.au/couriermail/s...7-3102,00.html
The highest tides in nine years threaten to create dangerous surges that could endanger lives and cause damaging erosion, authorities warn.
high-tide peak of 2.73m is expected for the Brisbane River at 10.24am on Sunday, higher than last year's 2.71m king tide that inundated the bayside suburb of Lota.
Surf Life Saving Queensland has warned beachgoers to exercise caution in the surf this week and early next week.
"These big tidal changes can often cause hazardous conditions for swimmers, due to factors such as the strengthening of rips, the added risk of being swept out to sea as larger volumes of water move quickly, and of being injured by exposed rocks or floating debris," SLSQ's Kevin Dunn said.
All of the open beaches may suffer from rips and currents as a result. Even at the more protected beaches such as Burleigh, swimmers will still need to exercise caution.

Re: Cyclone Season......CAIRNS/FNQ - TC NEVILLE/OLGA
At 10:00 am EST Ex-Tropical Cyclone Olga was over land and estimated to be 85 kilometres south southeast of Normanton and 105 kilometres west southwest of Croydon, moving southeast at 23 kilometres per hour.
Tropical Cyclone Olga has weakened below tropical cyclone intensity.
The remains of Tropical Cyclone Olga will track south over inland Queensland
over the next few days. Very heavy rainfall and isolated damaging wind gusts are expected with this system.
The Bureau is issuing Severe Weather Warnings as ex-TC Olga moves inland - looking at the track she will probably bring some nasty weather down towards Rockhampton and Mackay .........

We were down in Tassie which was perfect weather & came back to grey skies & monsoonal rains it is the season though I guess!
I read how much you liked Hobart, me too. I think Tassie is great although probably not for me at this stage as could not do the cold winters.
