Brisbane has been hit by cyclones in the past, although not very strong ones with most of the damage caused by flooding.

There was a few years ago that popped up off out from Coffs Harbour. Didnt last long and stayed at sea.

Piss off up to Innisfail and say that to the locals. Actually, don't go so far. Just nip up to Framac and tell him. I'm sure he'd be fascinated by your thoughts. Even if that comment was a joke, it was a moronic one.

Its what we plan for all year, and I will admit to getting a thrill when the Bureau rang me and announced Cyclone Neville had been named, however its a double-edged sword as I wouldn't wish it on anyone. I answered several calls from people in little communities around Innisfail during Larry - they were calling any government number they could to try and get help, and some of them were heart-breaking, having lost everthing, no way of getting help in from outside, stuff like that.

Because of the proximity of Neville and Olga, the Bureau are unsure what will happen. Its an unusual position, and one they haven't seen for many years.
The whole path of both cyclones could be affected by the way they are moving so close to each other, and is not beyond the realms of possibility that they could merge and deepen before moving together towards the coast.
The Bureau did say a couple of weeks back that it was a late start to the season, but would be adventurous once it got going..........
=============================

At 10:00 pm EST Tropical Cyclone Olga, Category 2 was estimated to be
250 kilometres east northeast of Cairns and 365 kilometres north northeast of
Townsville, and was moving west at 21 kilometres per hour.

GALES are expected to develop about the coast between Cape Melville and Cardwell
on Sunday.

DESTRUCTIVE WINDS are likely to develop about the coast between Cape Tribulation and Innisfail on Sunday afternoon as the cyclone centre approaches.Very heavy rainfall with localised flooding is expected to develop about the North Tropical Coast during Sunday.
As the cyclone crosses the coast, abnormally high tides are expected between Cape Tribulation and Innisfail, but the sea level should not exceed the highest of the year. Large waves are likely along the beachfront.
People between Cape Melville and Cardwell should immediately commence or
continue preparations, especially securing boats and property.

Click on the nearest place and that will give you transmitter info. If you can run your radio on batteries, stock up asap.
