Coral Sea low threatens to form cyclone, hit Cairns
Cairns is bracing for flooding and damaging winds, with a possible cyclone on the way from a developing low pressure system in the Coral Sea. Bureau of Meteorology duty forecaster Terry Erbs said a monsoonal low had formed in the Gulf of Carpentaria before crossing Cape York and was moving south-east as a "dynamic system" into the Coral Sea. "The low is disorganised," said Mr Erbs. "But there is a one in three chance of it developing into a cyclone as it hits the ocean. Either way there will be heavy rain and a potential for flooding." |

A Cyclone WATCH has been declared for coastal areas from Coen to Cape Melville, and from Cooktown to Cape Tribulation. At 4:00 am EST Tropical Cyclone Neville, Category 1 was estimated to be 210 kilometres east of Cape Flattery and 235 kilometres east northeast of Cooktown and was near stationary. TROPICAL CYCLONE Neville, CATEGORY 1, is expected to remain near stationary off the far north Queensland coast over the next 24 hours as it slowly intensifies. GALES extending 75 kilometres out from the centre may possibly develop on the coast between Cape Melville and Cooktown during the next 24 hours. This is a really unpredictable one, deepened very quickly over night before becoming a cyclone early this morning. Gave me a hectic night anyway :D
Predicted track may now take it south parallel to the coast, but because it developed so fast its predicted track is still pretty uncertain. I'd say anyone from Townsville north would be advised to keep an eye on it. TC Advice 2, 8.01am: TROPICAL CYCLONE Neville, CATEGORY 1, is expected to remain near stationary off the far north Queensland coast over the next 24 hours as it slowly intensifies. Meanwhile WA finally got TC Magda, who was also named last night,
A Cyclone WARNING continues for coastal areas from Kalumburu to Cockatoo Island. A Cyclone WATCH continues for coastal areas from Wyndham to Kalumburu and Cockatoo Island to Beagle Bay There is a significant risk that by Friday Magda will have intensified into a Severe Tropical Cyclone and be located close to the Kimberley coast. Hence there is the risk of very destructive winds between Kalumburu and Cape Leveque on Friday Magda is still building in intensity and may track inland a fair way |

When is brisbane gonna get some rain/storms. Seems to have been a very dry summer, storms very scarce. Only relief in summer is the storms and I am sick of boiling every day. Brisvegas later 32 nice :eek: not.

The cyclone formed so quickly overnight, when yesterday they said only really a 5 to 20% chance of the low developing into a cyclone.
So might be worth being a bit worried about this one and keeping a good eye on it. |
