TROPICAL CYCLONE ADVICE NUMBER 2;
5:04pm EST on Thursday the 18th of March 2010
A Cyclone WATCH has been declared for coastal areas from Cardwell to Yeppoon.
At 4:00 pm EST Severe Tropical Cyclone Ului, Category 3 was estimated to be
1100 kilometres northeast of Mackay and 1220 kilometres east northeast of Townsville and moving south southwest at 7 kilometres per hour. The cyclone is expected to remain about the same strength.
Severe Tropical Cyclone Ului is expected to begin moving in a southwesterly direction tonight towards the Queensland coast. On current predictions the most likely scenario is for the cyclone to cross the coast Sunday morning between Cardwell and Mackay. However, it is important to understand that some uncertainty remains in this outlook period.
DAMAGING winds should develop between Cardwell and Yeppoon during Saturday, and increasing further on Saturday night as the cyclone approaches the coast.
People between Cardwell and Yeppoon should consider what action they will need to take if the cyclone threat increases.
- Information is available from your local government
- For cyclone preparedness and safety advice, visit the Queensland's Disaster Management Services
website [www.disaster.qld.gov.au].
- For emergency assistance call the Queensland State Emergency Service [SES] on 132 500 [for assistance with storm damage, rising flood water, fallen trees on buildings or roof damage]
Please ensure that neighbours have heard and understood this message, particularly new arrivals or those who may not fully understand English.
This warning is also available through TV and Radio Broadcasts; the Bureau's website at www.bom.gov.au or call 1300 659 212.

==================================================
If the cyclone does impact your area, and you call the SES (132500), please remember that they will be dealing with an awful lot of calls so you please need to be patient if you can't get through. Once the cyclone has passed there will be SES volunteers, and other members of the emergency services, working in the field as soon as it is safe to do so, and you may be able to contact them in person. Volunteers are on standby to be deployed from other regions so there will be plenty of help around
If the situation is life threatening then please call 000, not the SES.

They're so damn used to it now, they can deal with it in their sleep unfortunately. Only just got themselves sorted after the last one. No way would I live up there, I couldn't handle the stress.
I'm sure they're as organised as they can be but please everyone, stay safe.

Re: Cyclone Season......Queensland - TC Ului
Bureau track maps are currently favouring Proserpine, with Mackay and Townsville geting plenty of wind but not a direct hit. Winds currently predicted by the Bureau to be around 210km/h on making landfall.
A Cyclone WATCH has been declared for coastal areas from Cardwell to Yeppoon, extending to the adjacent inland.
At 4:00 am EST Severe Tropical Cyclone Ului, Category 3 was estimated to be
1020 kilometres east northeast of Mackay and 1180 kilometres east northeast of Townsville and moving south southwest at 12 kilometres per hour.
Severe Tropical Cyclone Ului is expected to begin moving in a more southwesterly direction towards the Queensland coast today. It is expected to remain about the same strength.
On current predictions the most likely scenario is for the cyclone to cross the
coast Sunday morning between Cardwell and Mackay. However, it is important to understand that some uncertainty remains in this outlook period.

There's also a Severe Weather Warning current ...
Dangerous surf with some beach erosion is expected to develop about exposed
beaches during the day, particularly about the Sunshine and Fraser coasts.
These conditions are expected to ease later on Sunday.
The State Emergency Service advises that people in the affected area should stay well away from the water's edge
Today's Courier Mail-
The Sunshine Coast could expect a four-metre swell, and the Gold Coast between three and 3.5m.
Around the Whitsundays, mammoth waves of around 10m were forecast although the Great Barrier Reef should provide some protection,
``Inside the reef, the seas should be around four to six metres.''

If it's going to go where the Bureau says (which is about a 10% chance) then it'll miss us. In fact it should draw all the weather up here into it. Might even get a game of golf in tomorrow.

Re: Cyclone Season......Queensland - TC Ului
Tropical Cyclone Ului has weakened to category two intensity this morning and is now moving to the southwest towards the Queensland coast.
It now appears unlikely that the cyclone will reintensify. The most likely
scenario is for the cyclone to cross the coast Sunday morning between Cardwell and Mackay and it may remain at category 2 intensity by landfall.
Damaging winds should develop between Cardwell and Yeppoon later on Saturday, then increase further Sunday morning as the cyclone nears the coast then extend to the adjacent inland parts.
