Question Cubs, scouts etc

My boys want to know if there are any clubs etc for younger boys?
When we get to oz my eldest will be just starting senior school and the other 2 will be primary age. At the moment my eldest could join the cubs and is on the waiting list, but this is currently 2 years .
Does any one know if there are waiting lists for such clubs.?We are not sure where we will be living so any information will be great to give us a general idea.
Thanks Mandy

I know that is cos we moved in to the area most people put their boys names down at birth. The place has gone mad.

Joeys = 6-8 years
Cubs = 8-11 years
Scouts = 12+

Wouldnt think there would be a waiting list, there isnt for any of the packs around here, in fact our pack looks like it will be disbanded & absorbed by 2 other local packs as there arent enough kids (or leaders) to run it anymore.

i hope thee is something, as we dont have youth clubs or anything like that where we live and the kids are fed up .
the junior school doesn't even have an out of school club, yet the infants (on the same site) has a great one.
I just feel that the boys are missing out not mixing with other kids. i just hope that the kids will get to clubs out in oz.

Hi Mandy, tbh it will be alot better for us as the pack they go to is actually further away than the one they are merging with plus the new one will have alot more kids & alot of them will be school friends of our boys as it's close to their school. It's not as interesting for the kids when there are only 4 or 5 kids at each weeks meeting (& 2 of them are our boys!).

As for your boys, remember out here there are huge amounts of sporting & other clubs for kids after school, so I doubt they will be bored if they want to do something. Where are you heading for? Here in Qld as well as the usual sporting ones we also have something called PCYC which do a whole range of activities from karate to dancing for kids after school. Worth checking out if there is something similar in the state you are heading for .

Girls are allowed in the Scouts, as well as boys. They also have girl guides here, but don't know about ages.

HOW BIZARRE.

I have been looking on the internet at the australian scout association as I have exactly the same questions. I simply typed in the words above and it comes up with a map of oz, of which you select the state you are moving to. I too don't exactly know where I will be so used on of the email address available. Asked about where the groups were and what the waiting lists were like. If they come back telling me there is a waiting list, i am going to ask if I can put my sons name down for cubs from here.

What part of Oz were you going again? Our friends have young boys - am sure they will have info to pass on.
