The Cricket Thread (...and other sport)

Re: The Cricket Thread (...and other sport)
Poor shot selection, 4 out caught, one run out, bad decision making, this is a very average England team.... familiar analysis?
It's actually very predictable at Tea - 5/143, chance to take the game by the scruff of the neck but up steps someone to start swinging the game.
Significant is the more than 4 runs for over - if you are not having a good day you at least keep the scoreboard ticking over and don't get bogged down.

I don't think England have bowled that well. Australians getting stupid dismissals and the bowlers have been quite expensive
These 2 batsmen seem to be going okay though

Could be. If George Bailey cements his place in the test team I think he'll be the next captain but there you go. They'll persist with Bailey for the 5 tests so we'll see how he goes - leads the one day team very impressively. Smith responded in the best possible way after a poor run in first two tests; I was calling for Faulkner in his place but didn't think they'd change a winning team. Lucky they didn't for us.
This script is getting so repetitive it can't be down to anything other than outplayed and not good enough. 5/143 then 1/183 after that. If England are 4fer or 5fer they don't put up a fight and/or the bowling is too good for the tail. Botham said our tail collapses; their tail doesn't, simple. I would say it isn't a traditional tail Beefy - Haddin, Johnson, Siddle, Harris, Lyon all make runs regularly.
Broad is now getting out-psyched by Johnson's batting.
Bresnan and Anderson 0 for 120/130 must give cause for concern. No swing, no penetration. Swann got a couple of vital wickets, Stokes was the fastest and most underused of the quicks.
I think England will need 4 quick wickets in the 1st session tomorrow or the series will be over if Australia get near or over 400.

England had Australia on the ropes, but couldn't find the killer punch - again
Yes, Swann and Broad took 2 wickets each but all bowlers were expensive and Anderson just doesn't look right. That's a pity as he is a truly world-class quick
