Lords and Twickers unused for a good part of the year makes sense, hmm. Lords isn't even flat I ask you - would have been lasered levelled long ago if they had any modern sense. I chuckle every time I hear commentators say so and so is bowling up the slope.

Thats the exact reason why they should keep the world oval ball game out of Melbourne.

No one goes

I think they should playing cricket with a slightly oval shaped ball. It would make it more interesting.

The cricket ball has been known to warp. When it does they tend to replace it.

Not sure what your point is; if the powers that be in the 'pushing arses' game don't think there is a point to scheduling games in Melbourne they wouldn't, but they do.

Makes more sense that fimbling around on the floor for the ball. Then the crowd yells 'roar' or 'maul' or something. Then the ref throws it in the air. WTF is that all about?

The point is as a supporter we don't care about the small growth it gets in Melbourne. You guys can have ya up and unders, weird stuff and super sized general purpose no atmosphere stadium.. Leave us with the world game and the bogan rugby.

But where would they play the rugger in Sydney or Brisbane if it wasn't in Melbourne? Ah, a general purpose stadium; thought so. VFL became AFL and cracked Perth, Adelaide, Sydney and Brisbane markets. Rugger's trying to extend it's Sydney/Brisbane/Canberra base.

You don't. You just play state or origins and wallaby games in Syd or Bris where you have the right stadiums. Why they play the saffas in Perth so its almost a home game for the saffas is beyond me. If you must play a wallaby game in Melb you play it at that bubble stadium. Not that I've seen it full for a rugby game but you have the best chance of filling that stadium, and the crowd is close enough to the action so you can watch their bemused faces trying to understand whats going on. Forget playing at the MCG. Its a stadium that has nothing - maybe for AFL - I'll take your word on that.

And so endeth our discussion which go roundeth and roundeth and never the twain shall meet.

'That bubble stadium' is one of the most technologically advanced and spectator friendly stadiums in the world. I've seen Heart/City vs Victory twice when it was full and Storm when it was almost full but wouldn't go to watch the rah, rah, play up and play the game chaps Rebels.

Thanks. I worked on its design.

I thought it would be against your principles to have anything to do with what you call a general purpose stadium. ;)

What is amazing in Melbourne is you have AAMI Park, the new national indoor tennis centre and Melbourne Park, the MCG, Collingwood base and Storm so close together, so close to the city centre, all served by public transport; not to mention the river and the nearby Botanic Gardens.

To change tack a bit; is there an atmosphere to rival anywhere in sport like Borussia Dortmund? (Westfalionstadion aka Signal Iduna Park) I've watched a few games live there on BT Sport in the last few days (vs Bayern in league, Hoffenheim in Cup) with 80,000 watching. There must be 30,000 all standing behind one goal all dressed in red and black and singing, bouncing from start to end. Oh and that's where the Socceroos drew recently with the world champions away.

Nope not against if it works. But if it doesn't no point forcing the issue. Why play football or rugby at Lords in the off season? Apart from sporting ownership from a spectator point of view the crowd would be too far away from the edge of the pitch. That's why cricket sucks at the MCG. Cricket doesn't lend itself to a large 90000 person stadium. You yourself have never watched cricket at any other ground, so you really aren't one to know any different and be a good judge of that.

You've appointed yourself the Lord High judge of grounds. I went to the game vs England and thought it was fantastic (someone else said the same). You must have poor eyesight if you can't see the action or watch the 2 biggest HD screens going and feel you have to be in slips pockets to enjoy.

I wouldn't say that someone lives outside the box and visits multiple cricket venues is a lord. But if you insist. Certainly a better judge of how badly the MCG competes with other cricket grounds.

Anyhow RIP Richie

The MCG is not just a cricket ground. Ask most people what are the best cricket grounds in the world and I guarantee the top 2 will be Lords (mainly by dint of tradition like St Andrews for golf) and the MCG.

Well no. During the commentry in the semi, even Warnie had to admit that Sydney was the best cricket ground in Australia.

I do urge you to get out more.
