Thanks for that.

If you don't mind me asking, how much have they quoted you to have that house built (total cost)? Northlakes sounds like a really nice place to live.

Liked your website too....

Cheers.

Flattery will get you everywhere!!

Costs:
House $212900
Render $18500
Access package (carpets, fly screens, drive way, slab etc, etc..) = $32000
Elegance inclusions (upgrade to ovens, door handles sinks etc..) = $8000

The land...

Initially we thought about a block which was 20m wide by 32m deep ($195000), we had basic to scale plans drawn up. Northlakes stipulate a minimum of 6m front garden, which after having the house built left us with a 9.86m back garden.

When we got back home, i measured our back garden cos on a plan 9.86 sounds OK. Turns out our back garden is about 14m deep, so i have recently emailed the sales rep asking about bigger blocks, the prices and sizes are as follows:
20m wide x 38 metres deep $210000
20m wide x 42m deep $219000

That said according to the sales rep you get a $5000 Myers gift card - basically that means you get to go to Myers (John Lewis's/Debenhams etc equivelent) with a 'cheque' and buy your fridges, freezers etc.

I spent most of this morning working out a budget:

Actual house price $212,900.00
Render $18,500.00
Access Package
$32,000.00
Land
$210,000.00
Elegance inclusions $8,000.00
Misc (legal fees etc.) $10,000.00

Total $490,000.00 (ish)

We're taking a fairly large stash but what with initial living costs and no job initially I would love to think that if I get my ideal job that we could afford almost $500,000 but I think that the reality is quite sobering.....alas.......

I might start an Australian porn film studio called "Big Root Productions" and see where that gets me....

I'll try and persuade the wife to appear for a fee of course !

We are a little more fortunate to be taking a few more quid, plus a job fell onto my lap, all from a conversation in Tesco's car park !!

Which Tesco's was that? I've got a lot to say so all I need to do is get there now....

In all seriousness, how did the job come about? Are you staying in IT as it seems to me that IT jobs in Brisbane are a tough nut to crack for us Brits?

Literally it came about from a chat in Tescos car park.

One of my previous companies directors left a couple of years ago to set up a company, cutting a long story short they have just set up offices in NZ and Aus, and it just so happens that the Aus office is in Brisbane, when i bumped into this ex-director i mentioned that we were emmigrating
he said where
i said Brisbane
he said really
i said yes
he said have you got a job yet
i said no
he said you have now.... !!!

And yes it is in IT although i wanted to get out of it, but they offred me a similar salary as i am on in the UK - couldn't refuse!

So i am currently in their UK offices, supposedly being trained - although i have been here two and a half weeks and so far not so much as a sausage of training - oh did i mention that i am supposedly starting over there in a fortnight too!!

Why thank you.....

I hope you don't mind but I'll PM you my website details as my CV (now it's a resume) can be found on there (ignore the bit about me living in Brisbane already - it's a big lie - and not even a white one).....

Thanks again...
