Thanks to Air Asia, Tiger, Jetstar and VB there are now cheap holiday's easily available to places like Langkawi, Thailand, Vietnam etc from Perth. When we were in Phuket last year, people we met from Sydney were amazed at the cheap flight options we had from WA.

Then why are there direct flights with multiple airlines from Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane to Bali? People from all over Australia flock there. The only time I was in Bali, there were loads of (mainly young) people from WA but there were just as many from the rest of Australia.

I know people who might go to Bali once - but not go repeatedly. I know a family who go all the time - they never tire of it.

Apologies for going off topic.
It's unique in Aus.... unlike the 1,000's of kilometers of Coastline around the rest of the Country. It may not be unique compared to the rest of the world, but for Aus it's a One ff. I dont mind admitting I like it a lot, It's discussions like this that make me wonder If I would be more suited in the UK.
My last trip away was to Venus Bay, lovely place, but you've/we've seen it all before. So it makes me wonder if people are kidding themselves. How long honestly can people stay enthralled and interested in this ? There was hardly a soul around but thats normal for a typical Aus beach... must have done it well over 60 times now... Twodays it took to get bored. I've never been bored at the GC.
That may actually be bigger than my Pattie Piccy's

All the trainees that I had working for me love it there - and go at least once a year. Friends went recently and stayed in a luxury resort and never left the place! It's not a bad place I guess, just not for me. I think most people could find something they liked there. It's also pretty international. The Balinese people are great too.

I've always heard that Bali is way more popular with people from WA given the far shorter travel time. Not that people from the east don't go, just not nearly as often as the pacific islands are closer.

Re: Countries Aussies like and dislike.
On my couple of trips to visit Shanghai I found it endlessly interesting (8 years apart and there was massive change). Only downside was the awful pollution and getting violently ill - both ends - for 1 whole day each time. Still looking forward to my 3rd visit though

l don't think people go there bacsue the beaches in those places are any better, people go mainly to experience another culture and explore a foreign country.
