If you think living on government support which will end in 6 months, the mental detriment unemployment gives, associated stresses, domestic violence, alcoholism, and all these wellness problems the economic costs brings, then you've taken it to a new low. Great to have your contribution as always. Thought you had left? Are you still stuck in Perth? Good luck getting out now.

Only 8 new cases in WA overnight - all to do with death ships and international travel
We need to start opening up by the end of the month

No we don't. What we need to do is see what happens over time and form a judgement based on expert advise. We simply can't afford to regress and create bigger problems later down the line.

There are still 13 cases of unknown origin in Western Australia.

My guess is the 2 people regulation will revert to 10 people and more shops will be allowed/encouraged to open, probably with longer hours. Regain some level of normalcy and stop the police revenue raising via fining people.
Once they have the antibody test up and running I can see domestic flights becoming more tractable too, particularly between states will low/no new cases.
Strong limits will probably end up much more geographically targeted.

The reality is that the current regulations will tend to fall apart by the end of the month in any case - so better to start the deconstruction yourself than get forced to reflect that reality after the fact.

If Australia's stance is working (as it appears to be) then relaxing regulations at this point would be a mistake imo. Doing so prematurely would likely bite us in the arse and undo the good work done. If the economy is ticking over nicely, then limp along for a while and don't jump the gun.

not easy at all, but the right thing to do. Hold out til we can do more than take an educated guess, else things may get very ugly. We're kidding ourselves into a false sense of security otherwise.

From Angus: Another low for Australia of 1.42%, Singapore and Canada with the highest growth rates and the US takes over Italy with the most casualties.
Tourism Minister Simon Birmingham "The failure of many nations to contain the virus will have profound health and economic implications for those countries," he said. "What the consequences are, in terms of stability of government and civil unrest, is impossible to predict at present."Australians will have to wait until the end of this year or beyond to restart overseas travel. Travel restrictions could be eased within states if efforts to slow the spread of the virus succeed in the months ahead, but travel across state borders and outside Australia will face tough bans for the longer term.

Enjoying your updates Luthien. An interesting point to add to your list may be Iceland as I believe they intend to remain open but test everyone in their population.
