F**k it can be hard getting IT equipment right now. My wife needed a new laptop to work from home (and I can get 100% tax write off) so last weekend we went out to buy one. There were hardly any to be had - Officeworks, JB, the Good Guys (I don't shop at HN so never tried there) had very little in stock as they had sold most of their machines and were not getting restocked for a while. We ended up buying a fantastic Microsoft Surface Laptop 3 from JB but it cost more than I wanted to pay. I was trying to buy some new monitors for my Modelling/CAD workstation this week. Again, very little available and what was in stock was way overpriced - so I'll have to soldier on with the existing screens. Electronics retailers are having a great time at the moment

Enjoy the G920!

Only 8 new cases in WA overnight - all to do with death ships and international travel

We need to start opening up by the end of the month

Did I say that? I commented on your behaviour, not hers but nice try.

No we don't. What we need to do is see what happens over time and form a judgement based on expert advise. We simply can't afford to regress and create bigger problems later down the line.

Great news but too early to celebrate - end of the month is too early based on a 14-day incubation period. We need to see what patterns now start showing up with the introduction of broad-based community testing a few days ago - as well as any potential consequences from all the half-wits ignoring regional lockdowns and taking back roads around the roadblocks to their holidays (and they are around), and what if any impact there will be from all those hospital workers in Kalgoorlie now in self-isolation.

There are still 13 cases of unknown origin in Western Australia.

The reality is that the current regulations will tend to fall apart by the end of the month in any case - so better to start the deconstruction yourself than get forced to reflect that reality after the fact.

My guess is the 2 people regulation will revert to 10 people and more shops will be allowed/encouraged to open, probably with longer hours. Regain some level of normalcy and stop the police revenue raising via fining people.

Once they have the antibody test up and running I can see domestic flights becoming more tractable too, particularly between states will low/no new cases.

Strong limits will probably end up much more geographically targeted.

Very true. And WA will probably be the trial state.

If Australia's stance is working (as it appears to be) then relaxing regulations at this point would be a mistake imo. Doing so prematurely would likely bite us in the arse and undo the good work done. If the economy is ticking over nicely, then limp along for a while and don't jump the gun.

not easy at all, but the right thing to do. Hold out til we can do more than take an educated guess, else things may get very ugly. We're kidding ourselves into a false sense of security otherwise.

Anyone in Queensland who wants to report breaches of rules on social distancing such as large parties - Policelink on 131444 is the fastest way to get it to the attention of the right area

From Angus: Another low for Australia of 1.42%, Singapore and Canada with the highest growth rates and the US takes over Italy with the most casualties.
Tourism Minister Simon Birmingham "The failure of many nations to contain the virus will have profound health and economic implications for those countries," he said. "What the consequences are, in terms of stability of government and civil unrest, is impossible to predict at present."Australians will have to wait until the end of this year or beyond to restart overseas travel. Travel restrictions could be eased within states if efforts to slow the spread of the virus succeed in the months ahead, but travel across state borders and outside Australia will face tough bans for the longer term.

Enjoying your updates Luthien. An interesting point to add to your list may be Iceland as I believe they intend to remain open but test everyone in their population.
