From Monday 18 May, West Australian restaurants and cafes will be able to re-open for dine-in service, with a maximum occupancy of 20 customers.
Regional lockdown boundaries will be relaxed from 9 zones down to four, with travel permitted anywhere within the four zones. Residents in the Perth Metropolitan Area, Peel, South West, Great Southern and Wheatbelt regions will now be one zone; the Mid West, Gascoyne and Pilbara will be another zone; the Kimberley, which had the biggest outbreak outside Perth, will be another zone (previously, the Kimberley had been on shire-by-shire lockdown; travel between shires within the Kimberley will now be permitted); and Goldfields-Esperance will be one zone (the region had been broken up into separate locked-down Goldfields and Espereance zones, which will be lifted).
The 10 person gathering limit has been relaxed to a 20 person limit.
There has been one case in WA in the past 10 days, and currently 7 active cases statewide (6 in Perth, 1 in Kalgoorlie).

New Zealand Deputy PM Winston Peters says New Zealand and Australia may trial a "soft opening" (my term, not his) of the borders, allowing travel between New Zealand and just New South Wales, Queensland and Tasmania.
Winston is his own man and says a lot of things - quite often he goes out on his own and isn't necessarily representative of what the Government or Jacinta Ardern is thinking. For instance I don't believe there is currently a quarantine or self-isolation requirement for entry into NSW right now (Beoz, is that right?) so I don't know how Peters plans to exclude Victorians.
Though I would believe Queensland would need to be #1 on the priority list considering the volume of Kiwis that live there - Air New Zealand was flying to four cities in Queensland prior to COVID-19. Peters said 55% of NZ tourism is Australian-soourced so I understand why re-opening is important.
I am actually going to try and make a few bookings in NZ tonight for the summer holiday, the kickoff of my efforts to do all ten of the Great Walks this decade. I'll ask the accommodation providers if they can currently accept bookings from Australians and see what they say.

The US Mission to Australia says that Qantas will be operating four flights between Melbourne and Los Angeles over the next 30 days.

I would be very wary about opening up borders to New Zealand. Remember they have had full lockdown for 5 weeks, and that's full lockdown, you can't even grab a take away McDonald's, and they are still finding new cases, so their strategies are a complete failure and they have the potential to kick start outbreaks in Oz.
Furthermore, they are now rushing their opening up because of such damage they did to their economy which was already in bad shape. For example they are about to open up cinemas. People in and out of an indoor arena every few hours. Do we really need Kiwis here right now under such circumstances?

0 new cases in NSW from 6000 tests. First time of 0 new cases here and is a far cry from the 400 back in March. I don't expect 0 to continue over the coming days but its heading in the right direction.
My son started back at school yesterday and what a changed man. He is happy as Larry now, smile on his face, back to being full of beans. The school has the option of staggering the start but they recognize the importance to the mental health of the kids and see this as a priority over the potential risks of the virus so they are opening up full time. Poor old Victoria needs to wait til the end of the month.

Correct. No restrictions on interstate travellers to NSW. Just the internationals.

Good point. They seem to be loosening up their restrictions too quickly. I'm sure their economy must be really hurting, but they seem to be going from over the top restrictions to opening lots of things over just few days. Very risky IMO. Best we keep our distance from NZ for now at least - We wouldn't want them reversing the awesome progress we've made.
