oh no you poor thing what a blow! it really is a nightmare isn't it? no way to really time things right whatever you do. we haven't got our case officer yet so i was hoping to have our meds requested maybe by mid jan but by what you say maybe not. i know they will close for xmas but i was hoping maybe just a week! ha ha. nothing we can do but carry on waiting. i haven't contacted again to find out about a case officer i feel it as to be close now and we will just wait and see. our house sale is still in it limbo as we still do not have our deeds. hoping that will be sorted out for us in the new year as well. so we should be busy with something anyway which will make the time go quicker.

About 3 weeks for us. Lodgement date was obviously dated just before posting. What delayed our receipt was the Xmas post I think without digging the file (s) out!!
Anyway my AOS Bond is paid so ....just waiting now to be instructed to pay the 2nd visa charge. Happy New Year to all -

my mum/dads visa went off from my address on 30th nov and they still havent had an acknowledgement
....so, they are a little concerned. i have tried to explain the christmas post thing, but..........

Well I started a quick reply, typed out lots of info then somehow lost the lot (plot??)!
Start again, full of good cheer.
My application went in on the same date 30th Nov 05 and I eventually received an acknowledgement dated 19th Jan 06 sent to my old address and redirected. So I think received early Feb!! Was getting really worried. The lodgement date was 19th Dec, I knew something was happening because Perth telephoned 20th Dec with a credit card query and that was charged on the 23rd Dec.
I....anticipate receiving the visa letter early/mid Jan so all in all about 13/14 months total. But they seem to have speeded up a little from recent posts so hopefully cause for some optimism?
I frontloaded the medicals in July and I had also obtained PCC's but had not sent them off. Good job as I had to repeat them anyway.
If your parents change their address this is something to watch as I had informed DIMA of our move and received acknowledgement but I think until a CO is formally appointed that temporary desk officers dont investigate the files thoroughly. However there is now a proper form for notifying such changes, if there was one before I must have missed it! I could perhaps have gained a couple of weeks in the procedure but you are dependent on other people for parts of it and they have to fit your business into their schedules, Centrelink interviews for example took 2 weeks to arrange.
Anyhow there is an awful lot of preparation one can do to overcome the waiting time......redecorate and prepare the house for sale for example!
Ours took 12 months to sell after a couple of timewasters p***ed us about. Now we have our second home in Cyprus to sell and the car and more furniture to sort out. Oh well, how ones plans and directions change over the years and the goalposts keep moving. Keeps you young I suppose and the brain active. Hope this helps to cheer your Mum and Dad up a bit, just think they should be spending the next New Year permanently in the Ozzie sunshine on the beach and reading about the terrible weather in the UK with thousands of people stranded at Heathrow or on Central Trains for example!

thanks for that derek, although next new year in australia probably wont happen. they are talking about not selling until they get their visa, just to be sure, as they dont wont to loose their house should it go belly up (ever the optimists my parents 
). isnt that a coincidence, both sent 30th nov? dont know if my dad could last until the beginning of feb before they got an acknowledgement.......better tell him to stay where he is

Like most I use more than forum and some of you may already have seen what I am about to introduce. It may have relevance to many of us and maybe need to be given some forethought.
The only bit I used know on all this is that if a "gift" of cash or valuables is made...and doner expires within 7 years...its taxable still - unless its changed in the past few years.
There is a snippet of information which may be a great help, but before I mention it I am going to ask some questions of DIMA. Let you know when I know!
Anyway here is a copy of part of a post intended for me sent by Gill to whom I owe thanks for the amount of work done on the reply to me.
Finally, one hears an enormous amount about Contributory Parent visas, but it all tends to be confined to the visa itself. People tend to ignore (or at any rate, do not mention) the fact that the majority of British Parents who apply for this visa probably have assets which place them close to or above the threshold for Inheritance Tax in the UK (currently £283,000 on a Probate - ie conservative - valuation of the deceased's Estate.) The house in the UK is often worth a lot more than that by itself, without shares and other assets.
Inheritance Tax is chargeable on the deceased's world-wide assets potentially. Whether or not the Estate is liable for IHT depends on the deceased's Domicile. He or she can be 'ordinarily resident' in Timbuctoo for Income Tax purposes, but Domicile governs liability for IHT (and I think CGT as well). Domcile of Origin is difficult to shake off.
Like many others at our time of life, I would imagine that house, savings and goods exceed the minimum. I wonder if anyone has had the foresight to cater for this?

As far as meds go I would be inclined to recommend that your parents get a copy of the medical forms filled out in draft and to go and see their GP and explain what is happening and request that he gives them a medical. In that way any problems can be sorted and remedial measures put into place before they have their final medical. For example if they have high BP or chlorestorel readings treatment can be set up for this. If they need to see a specialist they then have time to sort this out before they go any further.

i didnt think there was tracy. i dont know whether they will do them before, it depends on how the waiting time is for them i suppose. i think dad might, as he i an impatient bugger . but at least i now know, thanks.
