confused of moving
I dont know what to do anymore.W e already got the much awaited visa, tickets booked and paid for(flight 3rd of May),and packing started but here i am doubting if we(im moving with my OH,3 and 2 yr old daughters)really need to go or stay here in the UK.
One factor for my confusion is my 457 visa.I am a nurse but we are heading to NSW and after searching for schools realized that my daughter who turn 3 last aug will actually start proper school by january 2011.The next big thing is about the visa.457 visa holders needs to pay education and it is expensive. 2nd factor is the temperature in summer which can increased up to 40-45 degrees in NSW.When we decide to move before,we dream of our toddlers enjoying outdoors but will they be able to do it by not putting themselves at risk of heat stroke?Am i mad?or am i overprotective of my kiddies?(keeping them in an airconditioned room?) :(:unsure::unsure::( I know the final say still remains with me but im hoping that BE members will help me by sharing golden thoughts. It will be much appreciated. |
Re: confused of moving
I don't mean to be unkind, but aren't these things you should have considered well before now?
Perhaps it is that you are just having last minute nerves which is quite normal. You are very far along the road now, try to remember what it is about Aus that made you want to move here in the first place. As a nurse, you should be able to apply for PR long before 2011, so don't worry about that. With regard to the hot temps, I don't believe that those extreme temps persist for long periods of time in NSW. Just make sure that you have aircon wherever you live. Lots of luck & try not to worry, it will all come good:thumbup: |

Re: confused of moving
Yup you will be up for $4.5k pa for education in 2011 and you might find it hard to find child care and that is going to cost an arm and several legs in the interim anyway.
If you dont let her outside in the heat (and why would you? It sucks the life out of you) you will just be doing what most Aussies do - you see far fewer kids playing outside here than you do in UK. And dont blame it on "better future for your kids" either, it's your adult whims which are being satisfied by a move. The future for kids here (apart from the melanoma) is no different from that they would get in UK and many Aussie kids cannot wait to escape once they have finished school/uni. OTOH this is an opportunity for you and if you want a bit of adventure in your life then go for it. At least with a temporary resident visa you always have the chance to go back if it isnt working for you |

With regards to high temparatures.............we tend to stay out of the sun when it is really hot, in addition use lots of sun protection.
All kids HAVE to wear sunhats to school, also all- in -one rashies have a high sun restriction to them |
Re: confused of moving
We stay inside when it is too hot - I don't have air-con, just ceiling fans so on really hot days I try to get to a pool or else go to the supermarket to cool off! But it doesn't get to 40 here really (Northern NSW), tends to be around 30 in the summer. I have a 6 yr old, 2 yr old and 3 month old.
The thing that I dislike is actually how cold it gets in the winter in the house. It really shocked me. Even though the temps aren't very cold outside, my house gets freezing in the mornings and evenings. We have a woodburner and we all have jumpers, dressing gowns, socks and hats even. Thick quilts on the bed and water bottles. I wish we had central heating! |
