On the news here earlier there was mention that the cap on benefits and the end of child benefit to high earners is nothing compared with what will be revealed on Tuesday.

At long last common sense reigns. Looks like the Great is about to be put back into Britain

I wouldn't count on it.

He's picking the "low hanging fruit".

Won't be long before the state pension is means and asset tested just like it is in Australia,

I never understood it either.

We didn't need the money, but we just added it back to our bank accounts. It's just a tax rebate.

The kids owe us far more than the child benefit paid anyway from what they've borrowed.

Great message. Hopefully it turns into real action. I hate seeing families with no working parents demanding a bigger house due to their kids and claiming they have no cash and are so poor yet they still manage to smoke every day.

I feel sorry for the really hard up people who want to work but can't afford it as the only job they can get is less money than the benefits. There should be a plan to get these people back in work and make sure doctors who sign people off on the sick are much stricter in their diagnosis of "back problems" etc

Good on the tories about time us working folk seen these lazy gits feel a bit of pain.

The announcement came as Mr Osborne also announced that he will withdraw child benefit from families where one parent earns enough to pay higher-rate tax - currently about £44,000.
So in one family where one parent earns £45K they won't get child benefit, but a second family where both parents earn £43K will? Brilliant.

Yeah, that could do with a bit of fine tuning. Credit could also be given for those households where one parent stays at home to raise the family.

[QUOTE=ABCDiamond;8896650]This is the list

Australia 3,613

--- That is going to get whacked right up after the great financial handout ( I mean crisis) with the various bonuses, handouts, and school uniform etc subsidies that have been given - I wonder if those are counted.

That would be the 500$ laptop rebate for school children to pay for b.band/laptop etc , the 750$ was it per child harvey_norman bonus 1.0, and the further 1500? harvey_norman_bonus 2.0

nearly double what was given out in 2007 .

It does make you wonder how well thought out everything else is when they can mess something so simple up, doesn't it?

Completely mad

(You did mean one parent earning 45k losing the benefit and two being able to earn 83k (not 43)and keeping it?)

I think you're right. While everyone's rejoicing about this, slip the other stuff in.

that's the kicker. Why not link it to tax credits? When you hit a Family income of approx 57k then you lose the child benefit. That way a single income family earning £1 over the threshold for higher rate tax won't be affected. It also shouldn't add to the admin burden.

Personally however I think the whole tax credit system should be ditched. Why pay an army of civil servants to decide if I can have some tax back when all that's needed is an increase in my tax code, or am I missing something?

and while we're at it limit child benefit to the first 2 children only, got to be good for the taxman and the environment so everyones happy, well except the baby factory chavs!

best stop before rant mode starts fully:-)

Exactly the rant I had with my friends on our walk this morning!! It took us two hours to discuss - you've done better than us!
Now all we have to do is get elected.....
