Hello great people! just thought I would post a thread to celebrate the greatness of living Cairns. been here for 5 weeks and feel great, healthier, less stressed and happy! For those of you considering Cairns do it!!! its a beautiful place and its wild!
Any further comments about the tropical life????:thumbup:

I think Cairns is great, its only downside is that the beaches are not as good as down south (no blue water or surf).

I'm with Baz re the beaches but I love the laid-back atmosphere that Cairns has & how green it is:thumbup:

We're thinking of moving to cairns after 2 years in melbourne.Any good pointers on life up there? what is it that makes cairns great?

I was laid on my local beach playing sudoku yesterday when i heard a young english guy telling his friends how disappointing cairns was... beaches dirty and polluted, nothing to do etc.

I've been to Kuranda on holiday and only remember cairns as melting the soles of my shoes the tarmac was so hot.

There is no beach in cairns itself its a wildlife preserve.

The beaches are about a 10 - 20 min drive outside of Cairns in the northern beaches area and as for nothing to do well he must be a very boring person lol.

Thats mad, there are hundreds of things to do, visit numerous places on Tablelands (like English countryside with tropical twist as higher altitude), oh, the Daintree world heratige rainforest, also very boring, world heratige Great Barrier Reef, i can see how that would be dull, Mission Beach just to the South, Green Island, Kuranda, Port Douglas just 45 mins away, restaurants and bars, Beaches (though i agree they are not as nice as S.E Qld,) The Esplanade, university, international airport....... as for pollution and dirt, i would say thats one of the last things you could say about Cairns, the water on the beaches is brown, but thats just because of silt flowing into the sea from rivers, its not pollution.

So, in summary, if you don't mind not having a beach that's good but also isn't mobbed by a load of British expats every weekend, come to Cairns.
