I am about to turn a tray of old strawberries (18 punnets for $5) into strawberry jam. Only a few are mushy, so it is still a bargain. I've made courgette (zuccini) chutney too with "out of date" veg. I go in early on a monday morning to Harris Farm, and pick up trays of whatever is going cheap. Then I plan my meals/ preserve making around them. Have to get in before the Asians get there and buy up the whole supply for their restaurants/families. One woman last week bought 8 trays of lettuce!!

I made strawberry ice cream and vanilla ice cream with strawberry swirl on the weekend. Very nice they were too

Where are all the supermarket Poms and their first world problem -proclamations on the state of the world at the fine establishments found here....wouldn't happen in the UK, eh? (Just joking).
Who notices expiry dates on things? I don't have the time. Even milk is drunk too fast in this household.
I have a ribeye steak which I gave to the dog, all because I defrost it then got too busy to cook it. Probably would have been fine..

Some excellent ideas, but I think I like Cresta's and MP's best. If an old time C&W singer does the song, the yoghurt could expire on the same day the dog dies and his woman done left him, so he hops a southbound train and trundles off into the sunset, a broken man
