Look, MP, go and do something suitable for a little lady like washing your smalls or making dinner or something, and leave the big boy discussions to the big boys.
Okay?
It's obviously why the UK supermarkets are in the terrible situation they're in and why no one goes food shopping there.

Perfectly true, we never go shopping to UK supermarkets now, think of having to take a bag to put your shopping in, positively antedeluvian, I mean our mothers had to do things like that, and the fact that UK supermarkets don't have plastic bags available now, I mean shoppers are just going elsewhere in droves, you see them everyday in Tescos and the Co-op,
Seriously though supermarkets are still making big profits, even though they don't give away any plastic bags, well apart from ones to wrap meat etc in to stop them leaking into your reusable shopping bag, even plastic packaging of goods is being reduced.

I've been pondering the latest bit of mumbo jumbo that's caught the eye of the hip and happening crowd - 'virtue signalling'. How, I thought, can one signal one's virtue in an understated way that won't raise the ire of this crowd, an ire that does seem to be very easily raised. Then I saw these and was SO relieved. Save all the little fishies in the sea

Makes you wonder how Aldi did it in this country eh
Bet they are feeling very buoyant now after this bag debacle.
I do wonder if some people have turned back to the small independents on the high streets and small shopping strips in the interim.

It'll be interesting to see if the Aldi finance figures mirror the Woolies ones, and what Coles are doing. Citi analyst Bryan Raymond has suggested that Coles’ like-for-like sales could be boosted by 50 to 100 basis points this quarter, off the back of Woolies making the mess they have admitted to, Coles still providing free bags, and because of the plastic "Little Shop" tokens they have been doing well with (which kind of gives the lie to them caring about the amount of plastic pollution the produce).

RIGHT business decision by Coles, and one I predicted when they first started doing complimentary bags. Kind of hard to stop without giving up business advantage, as Woolies will find. I expect Woolies will fall into line, and there's a reasonable chance that they will have to extend to South Australia, Tasmania, etc.

The government should step in with a blanket ban on any single use plastics, if they're only designed to make life a little more convenient then stuff what people think. They're being asked to take their own bags not hand over a kidney for god's sake. Single use shite is the scourge of our planet, animals literally starving to death, unable to eat because their stomachs are full of plastic. SMH.
