Cold Calls/Computer Scam Calls

As I've had a dramatic increase in the number of cold calls in recent months. I wonder if many people actually buy anything from a cold call?

What kind of cold calls are you talking about? Home or business - business?

Have you re-registered on 'Do Not Call'? Our junk calls have dropped off virtually to zero since we re-registered.

Apparently I won a holiday today. I'm signed up to the do not call thing, don't get many but certainly wouldn't buy whatever they're trying to sell.

Calls to home. They've apparently checked my computer blah blah blah....

We are nearly up to one a day despite being on the Do Not Call register. Usually about lunch time or tea time. Today I was wondering how many conversions they actually get as I've never come across anyone who has a good word to say about them.

Yes we are. It expired earlier this year and we rejoined but we seem to be getting a lot more calls this year than previously. It was virtually nil over the previous 2 years. I'm not sure whether the expiry gave them a window of opportunity to get us onto some lists or whether it's just a natural increase.

Yeah, wondered that myself but then, 419 scammers always seem to get someone.

Funnily enough, I do have a friend who got a good timeshare through a cold call and they won a decent holiday cruise.

Anyone that buys anything from a cold call deserves it.

I've got to that point as well.

Although the other day I was about to do it when I just about made out "Good Guys". The delivery guy was an Indian. :D

They seem to come in waves, we had a lot about 3 weeks ago.

Problem is they are all call centers in Singapore, India etc and it's very hard sometimes to understand what the callers are saying - I'm not been rude it's just they have heavy accents and the lines are usually a bit flakey so it's not a clear call!

It's the charity ones that get me. I don't wish to come across mean but how do you know who's on the other end of the phone?

Re: Cold Calls

Havent had a single cold call since August 2006 when we dropped our telstra phone line and switched to a Mynetfone VOIP number.

Even ignoring cost savings - that reason alone makes a VOIP based telephone a *must have*. :D

Which is a pain as charities are exempt from the do-not-call rules.

very rarely get one. But when I do, I take pleasure in hanging up just as they are introducing themselves. The mrs thinks I'm rude for doing that, ho ho.
