It was pulled because they [The Palmer Coolum Resort] wanted to still hold the event there but no longer sponsor the event. Nothing to do with Jeff the dinosaur.
I see Palmer beat Mad Bob Katter in the polls as well

Seems like his lead is evaporating now! What do we think...lawyers, courtroom drama, tantrums??

PS...does anyone know why it takes so long to count votes!?? We're not talking about postal votes still trickling in here, but votes that have been sitting around for getting on for 10 days waiting to be counted.

It must be trying to work out the preferences I guess. Certainly in the UK all the counting is finished by sunrise the following day - indeed there's always the race to see who can return first. I'm not sure that having counting going on for 10-15 days is entirely democratic - it certainly presents a much larger opportunity for votes to go missing or be accidentally discarded etc.

I think the UK still does manual counting - No electronics there either...

I believe so, but there is no preferential voting, so the count must be an order of magnitude easier.

A week or so ago Palmer was in front by just over a thousand votes. now there's been an influx of "late" postal votes. I'm not a Palmer supporter, I think he's a bit of a nutter TBH. However, Friday is the cut off date for postal votes & they all seem to be for other candidates. His lead at close of play tonight was just 3 votes.
Being naturally cynical I question: Can interested parties post ballot papers from interstate & overseas to deliberately keep him out? If voting is secret ballot how do the counters know where these "late" postal votes are coming in from?
He's going to end up like the little boy that cried wolf.........

My understanding is that they have to be received and logged by the AEC by a certain date (I think the Friday before the election). Any postal votes received after this date are discarded
