Class Distinction
I just wondered what peoples thoughts are on Class Distinction here in Australia.
I have been here for nearly 13 years and have not come across class distinction with australian citizens. I have however come across class distinction within the migrant community from the UK.
What are your feelings in regards to fellow migrants from the motherland. Do you feel you are a better person than someone who is not so wealthy and did not have a public education, maybe you live in a big house on a well to do estate or prehaps you just live in an average community who live from week to week. Are you prepared to meet everyone head on and treat them as an equeal or will you only mix with your "own kind".
I for one will go for the aussie approach every time.

Re: Class Distinction
I can only assume this is a wind up, as the class distinction her in mellie, sickens me to my stomach, i hear it on a day to day basis working in the operating theatre, i am sick listening to the medical staff , i am sick listening to where they live, where their kids go to school, their holiday/investment property, even their double glazing ffs, but most sickenting of all is the talk of 'can the squeeze another medicare nos outta this operation', which means they get paid more , private or public, and they are so up their own arses they assume the nursing staff round about are too 'thick' to pick up on this:curse:
iI am sick of the talk as to wherther this patient has 'private health cover and extras, and , 'if we mention cancer will they pay more', i am sick of the comparison to the outer eastern suburbs to the inner eastern suburbs, i am sick of the statements like 'well their from dandenong, whatdoya expect,' , or even worse from the wester suburbs with no private health insurance, i am SICK! SICK! SICK! of it!!!!!

Re: Class Distinction
really!!!!, i would kill to hear an english accent, coz the only ones i have heard are aussie, they have these conversations around me coz they assume i cant speak english, as i have a thick scottish accent , that is how up their own arse they are:curse:
I apologise if i have went off at a tangent, but it is something that has shocked and appauled me here, my kids in scotland went to the same school as the medical staff, socialised with them, we met them at parents night, last year we spent new years eve at a ceilidh with a some of the medical staff, i never thought anything of the it till we came here !!!! it will take 50 years or more for that to happen in aus,

Re: Class Distinction
Have to say - a lot of the Brits that we come across on our day to day travels seem to be right 'up their arses', almost as if they are superior because they have a nice car or nice house and have been given a visa.
Sat in a restaurant t'other night and there was a table of 4 retired poms - all 3 of us were bloody ashamed to be British and even apologised to the waitress when leaving, saying, 'we're not all like that you know'!
Not an isolated incident either - the amount of poms that swan around Redcliffe like their shit doesn't stink, is getting unreal!
Why can't people just integrate and see everyone as an equal!
