Hi Hindon I don't know where you are thinking of heading but where we are going (Springfield Lakes Brisbane) they go in for Xmas in a big way. All the houses are decorated big time and they have a community nativity by the lake with carols and real camels. When we were on hols in 2004 it felt really strange with the different areas competing for the best decorated street and all the decs and carols in 30c heat. I suppose we will have to get used to it as we will be celebrating our first Xmas there this year

We had our first Christmas and New Year in Oz last year. I have to say it was the best ever! We were invited round to friends Xmas day for dinner - kids were in the pool, all very relaxed. On NYE we had a party and were in the pool at midnight - it was brilliant! No worries about gettig a baby sitter, no smokey pubs and no kissing complete strangers happy new year! Inbetween we were invited out nearly every night - we were knackered by NYE!
There were lots of houses with of decorations- they looked great.
We had community carol singing in the park, sat on the grass in shorts, drinking wine!

The thing that makes me laugh about Xmas in Queensland is that people send each other Xmas cards with snowy scenes on them. Bit stupid really when it is 40C+ outside.

It's traditional; it doesn't have to make sense.

PS spent Christmas and new year in north QLD
went to the local carol service run by the sally army
we refused the traditional meal ( the hotel restaurant had put on the complete works but as it was 34 degrees we opted for chicken salad -- its exactley the same as here just a lot warmer

I'm looking forward to christmas in OZ. My parents are separated so every year i always upset someone by not going for christmas dinner. Then we spend boxing day with the other parent and i still have to fit MIL in. I'm just looking forward to a christmas not running around and just relaxing with my husband and children. This year will be our last christmas in the UK and everyone wants us to be with them on christmas day. There's going to be some arguments this year. :scared:

...........and i forgot in OZ we won't have so many Xmas cards(can't see alot of people bothering to send us one)so i won't have to put up with weeks of constantly finding room for more cards especially the ones that won't stand(cheapy ones).

easy, tell them all that as its your last christmas in YOUR home then you will be having christmas dinner there and they are welcome to come and visit you. We put on a buffet style christmas dinner and everyone came. We got sick of dragging the kids away from their toys to go and visit our parents who could have come and visit us with much less hassle.
