Chivalry is not dead
I fell over in the CBD yesterday, (on my way to an eye appointment,)catching my toe on a paving slab as I tried to avoid a mess. Full length undignified sprawl, hurting my knee, hip and hand, and jarring my spine (and falling into the mess.)
3 kind gents immediately sprang to my aid, helped me to a bench, and one of them sat with me to make sure that I was ok. The one who stayed was the only one not in a suit. I am grateful that they took the time to help an old bag lady instead of walking past. Thanks guys. |

I fell over in a shopping centre (some child had kindly squirted juice out of a carton all over the floor and I was completely oblivious... at least I hope it was juice it had squirted...) and a host of people rushed to help me up and make sure I was okay. A lovely young man from one of the shops offered to push my trolley to the car and put my shopping in. Himself lost his work phone on the train yesterday - last night someone found it and rang us up, happy to drop it into his office today. His mother has also been mangling our phone number and calling some poor bloke (I'm assuming in NSW, I'm fairly sure she's managed the 02 bit) - he offered to try and find out the number she should have been ringing. People can be lovely :) Hope you're ok and not too stiff this morning. |

Re: Chivalry is not dead
Listen to Aunty Dorothy, Caroline, and take care of yourself. Let your doctor decide if x-rays are needed.
I had a similar result a few years back when I fell in Singapore, despite the locals having a reputation for being selfish SOBs. Maybe falling outside a kindergarden was a good plan, as the people that stayed with me in the searing sun, searched my phone and called my doctor's surgery, called my husband, etc., were all teachers. And they left only once the surgery nurse appeared (another hero, took me to hospital in a taxi and saved me a fortune, by-passed A&E and took me straight up to a surgeon)...saying they'd pray for me  |

Didn't live there obviously but we found the locals very chivalous. We were out walking and it started monsooning and this lovely lady in front with an umbrella saw us, waited and then walked along with Tiddler with the umbrella over her and then got to the building she wanted and tried to give us the brolly.

If that had been London, 3 hoodies would have pretended to help you, whilst robbing you at the same time.

We found Sydney like that too. Lot's of people helped me with my pram when I was getting on and off the train. Even in rush hour when it's every man for themselves!
